Advancement in the Diagnosis of ANOCA/INOCA
It is my pleasure to welcome you to this webinar focused on recent advancements in the diagnostic evaluation of ANOCA (Angina with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries) and INOCA (Ischaemia with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries). We are privileged to convene a panel of leading specialists who will present the latest scientific developments in both invasive and non-invasive diagnostic methodologies, with the objective of delineating the diverse endotypes associated with ANOCA and INOCA.
Our programme will extend beyond the investigation of coronary microvascular dysfunction, incorporating an analysis of coronary vasoreactivity and its influence on both epicardial and microvascular compartments. We will examine the physiological mechanisms underpinning coronary microcirculation and the associated pathophysiological processes. Additionally, the session will feature patient-reported experiences regarding their diagnostic pathways, providing critical insight into the often complex and multifaceted nature of disease recognition.
Throughout the webinar, distinguished experts representing the principal cardiovascular imaging modalities will critically evaluate the advantages and limitations of PET-CT, Cardiac MRI perfusion, and Advanced Stress echocardiography. These modalities will be considered in their capacity as supplementary non-invasive diagnostic tools, in conjunction with the gold standard of invasive functional coronary assessment, thereby enhancing the precision and scope of ANOCA/INOCA diagnosis.
We trust that this webinar will offer an enriching educational experience, equipping attendees with a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology and diagnostic challenges faced by patients. By streamlining diagnostic testing, we aim to promote early diagnosis and appropriate management, improving outcomes for those affected by these complex conditions.

Prof. Dr. Juan Carlos Kaski

Professor Kaski is Professor of Cardiovascular Science (Emeritus) at St George’s, University of London, UK, and the former director of the Cardiovascular and Cell Sciences Research Institute at St George’s, University of London. He is an honorary consultant cardiologist at St George’s University Teaching Hospitals, NHS Trust, and the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, UK.
Professor Kaski is the immediate-past chairman of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, the immediate-past deputy editor of the European Heart Journal, Editor-in-Chief of the European Cardiology Review Journal, and Editor-in-Chief of the European Society of Cardiology Handbook on Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy.
JC Kaski is a fellow of over 30 scientific societies worldwide, a doctor honoris causa at several universities, a recipient of the Gold Medal of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and a past president of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy (ISCP).
Professor Kaski’s research areas include microvascular and vasospastic angina, pathogenesis of angina, inflammatory and immunological mechanisms of atherosclerosis, and biomarkers of cardiovascular risk. He has authored over 800 papers in peer-reviewed journals and edited 13 books on cardiovascular disease. His research metrics are as follows: citations 47,512; h-index: 118; h-10 index: 466.

Dr. Giovanni Luigi De Maria

Dr. Giovanni Luigi De Maria is a leading consultant interventional cardiologist at the Oxford Heart Centre of the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford, UK). He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford.
His main areas of research include reperfusion therapeutics in acute coronary syndrome, the diagnosis and management of microvascular obstruction in patients undergoing percutaneous revascularization, and microvascular dysfunction in patients with refractory angina. He leads the Coronary Sinus Reducer and the Renal Denervation clinical and research programs at the Oxford Heart Centre.
Prof. Roxy Senior
Royal Brompton Hospital, London, United Kingdom, Imperial College London, London, United Kingdom;
Roxy Senior is an internationally recognized authority in echocardiography. He is a Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College London, a consultant cardiologist, and the Director of Echocardiography at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, UK. He is also the Director of Cardiac Research at the Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow, UK. He has led 3 large multicenter trials in myocardial contrast echocardiography, which were instrumental in this technique being included in guidelines in both Europe and the USA. He is also instrumental in popularizing stress echo through major publications and is regarded as an international authority on this technique. He was one of the first to show the cost-effectiveness of portable echo for performing heart failure screening in the community. Recently, he led a large multicenter trial (ISCHEMIA) in the UK funded by NHLBI USA through NYU and was instrumental in making the UK the third biggest contributor to this trial, which is likely to change the way that patients with CAD are managed. He developed the concept of transaortic flow rate for assessing the severity of aortic valve stenosis. He was recently co-awarded a grant by the British Heart Foundation to develop high-frame-rate contrast echocardiography. He was also on the writing committee for both the 2013 and 2024 ESC guidelines on chronic coronary syndrome. He was awarded the "Edler Lecture” Award by the University of Lund, Sweden, for his pioneering work in echocardiography in 2007. He was awarded an honorary Fellowship of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) for his leadership and contributions in the echocardiograph (2021). He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Cardiological Society of India (WB branch) (2020). He was also awarded a National NHS (UK) Silver Award for his contributions to the service (2022). Also, in 2022, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Society of Echocardiography.
Prof. Dr. Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci

Professor Bucciarelli-Ducci received her undergraduate degree (2001) and postgraduate fellowship in cardiology (2005) from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Italy. She then undertook courses and fellowships at Northwestern University in Chicago, the University of Zurich, Harvard Medical School, Oxford University, and, more recently, an MSc in Health Economics from LSE. She worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital as a senior CMR clinical and research fellow from 2006 to 2010, and in 2012, she was awarded a PhD in CMR from the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College. She was appointed a consultant cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute and University of Bristol, where she was headhunted in 2010 to build the CMR program. In 2021, she then returned to Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals to lead the CMR clinical academic program at Harefield. She is an associate professor at King's College London, School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging. Since 2019, she has also been the CEO of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the leading international association in the field of CMR, with HQ in the USA. Previously, she held leadership positions in the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and the European Society of Cardiology, with whom she continues to have strong collaborations.
She is an invited expert by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) of the European Union (on contrast agents) and by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the United Nations (on medical imaging without the use of radiation). She is on the scientific advisory board of the National Heart Centre Singapore and Centro de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) in Spain. She is the Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal (one of the most important cardiology journals worldwide) for the cardiovascular imaging section.
Prof. Dr. Alessia Gimelli
Gabriele Monasterio Foundation, Pisa, Italy;
Dr. Alessia Gimelli is a cardiologist and nuclear medicine specialist. She serves as Director of the Health Quality, Accreditation, and Education Division at the Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio in Pisa, Italy, where she also leads the Nuclear Cardiology Unit and its associated training program.
Dr. Gimelli has extensive experience in clinical research in cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular imaging and has contributed to several high-profile international research projects. She has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has served on the editorial boards of international journals in senior roles.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Gimelli has held multiple positions within the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). She is currently Editor-in-Chief of the European Heart Journal – Imaging Methods and Practice.
