Marine Fouling Protection Technologies: Economics, Coatings and Environmental Health
The goal of this webinar is for all of us is to gain transdisciplinary understanding so we can move forward as a community toward more sustainable fouling management coatings. Our community is composed of Businesses, Polymer Chemists, Engineers, Biologists, Environmentalists, Policy Makers, Shareholders, Funding Organizations, Consumers, and associated thought leaders.
As is the case for other global challenges, perspective of the issues surrounding biofouling management are diverse, political, and contentious. It is fair to say that lives and livelihoods are at stake from all perspectives. Though change is essential, all our cultures provide inertia because, change includes risk and uncertainty.
Fouling management is an age-old problem. Thousands of years of experience should provide context for sustainable solutions. Modern fouling management is about 100 years old. Global economies, markets and political systems are on similar time scales. Interdisciplinary science based best practices and concepts like Planetary Boundaries are in their infancy. With a little care, this webinar and others like it will begin a process that heads biofouling management in a sustainable direction from all but the most radical viewpoints.
