In recognition of Dark Matter Day 2024 (https://www.interactions.org/dark-matter-day), MDPI is organizing a special webinar aimed at bringing together researchers to discuss the latest advancements, theories, and discoveries related to dark matter, one of the most intriguing and elusive aspects of the universe.
Dark matter research plays a critical role in our understanding of the cosmos, influencing the structure and evolution of galaxies and driving innovations in physics, astronomy, and cosmology.

Meet Our Speakers
Prof. Dr. Elisabetta Barberio
School of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Melbourne, Australia;
Dr. Elisabetta Barberio's academic journey took her across the globe, completing her Laurea in Bologna, her PhD in Germany, and a Koshland fellowship at the Weizmann Institute in Israel. Before joining The University of Melbourne in 2004, she played a pivotal role in the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. Her work at CERN contributed to precise measurements confirming fundamental particle behavior theories.
In 2018, Dr. Barberio became the first woman to receive the prestigious Walter Boas Medal from the Australian Institute of Physics. She continues to lead groundbreaking initiatives, including the first direct detection dark matter program in Australia and the construction of the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory, the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. As Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics, she leads a national team of researchers and is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive scientific community while promoting the excitement of science across Australia.
Prof. Dr. Hermano Velten
Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, Brazil;
Hermano Velten obtained his bachelor, master and Phd degrees at Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo. He also had postdoctoral periods at Universität Bielefeld (Germany) and at Centre de Physique Théorique (Marseille, France). He is currently full professor at Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP, Brazil).
Dr. Enrichetta Iodice
INAF-Atronomical Observatory of Capodimonte, Naples, Italy;
Dr. Enrica Iodice earned her PhD in Astrophysics from ISAS Trieste, Italy, in 2001. Since 2004, she has been a staff astronomer at the INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte in Naples, where she leads the Italian Coordination Centre for the VLT Survey Telescope (vst.inaf.it). Dr. Iodice also represents Italy on the ESO User Committee and serves as Principal Investigator of the ESO Large Program "Looking into the Faintest with MUSE (LEWIS)," securing 133 observation hours with MUSE at ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT).
