In recent years, rapid advances in machine learning, large language models, high-throughput computing, and automated experimental technologies are profoundly transforming the research paradigm of quantum materials. These tools enable new avenues for investigating complex correlated electronic systems, topological quantum states, low-dimensional materials, superconducting and magnetic materials, as well as energy and functional materials.
To foster interdisciplinary dialog across materials science, artificial intelligence, and quantum materials, and to discuss cutting-edge progress and prospective applications of AI-assisted materials discovery, theoretical calculations, structural characterization, material property prediction, and experimental design, the 2026 MDPI Materials Science Conference—AI4 Quantum Materials and the Inaugural Michele Parrinello Award Ceremony will be held at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) on November 6–7, 2026.
The conference is co-hosted by MDPI, the State Key Laboratory of Quantum Functional Materials, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), and the Department of Physics, SUSTech. Co-organizers include South China University of Technology, Fudan University, the Dongguan Institute of Materials Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Quantum Science Center.
Centered on the core theme “AI for Quantum Materials”, the conference will feature in-depth discussions covering AI-driven quantum materials design, first-principles calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, materials databases and automated high-throughput screening, analysis of advanced characterization datasets, low-dimensional and topological quantum materials, strongly correlated electronic systems, as well as functional materials and device applications. The inaugural Michele Parrinello Award Ceremony will be held alongside the conference to facilitate high-level international academic exchange and support the career development of early-career researchers.
