Welcome to the 2^nd session of MDP’s World Kidney Day 2026 Webinar.

The theme of World Kidney Day 2026, “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,” highlights the urgent need to advance prevention, early detection, and equitable access to kidney care, while also addressing the environmental impact of kidney disease and its treatments. Climate-related risks such as air pollution, heat stress, and dehydration are increasingly linked to kidney disease, and the resource-intensive nature of some therapies underscores the importance of more sustainable healthcare practices.

In this webinar, leading experts from research, clinical practice, and public health will share insights and strategies to improve kidney health outcomes across diverse populations. The session aims to foster collaboration, raise awareness, and support actions that protect both people and the planet through more equitable and sustainable kidney care.

Dr. Surya Nauli

Chapman University, United States;
Dr. Surya Nauli earned his doctorate in Pharmacology from Loma Linda Medical School and completed an NIH fellowship at Harvard, where he was later appointed Instructor in Medicine. After joining the University of Toledo as a faculty member, he achieved tenure as Associate Professor. In 2014, Dr. Nauli became a professor at Chapman University School of Pharmacy. His research focuses on primary cilia biology, chemical screening for pharmacological candidates, and developing improved in vivo models for cilia-targeting therapies in vascular and kidney diseases.

Prof. Yuri Battaglia

University of Verona, Italy;
Prof. Yuri Battaglia is an associate professor of nephrology at the University of Verona, Italy, and the head of the Nephrology and Dialysis Unit at Pederzoli Hospital in Peschiera del Garda, Italy. He was director of the Specialization School in Nephrology at the University of Verona. He served as a council member of the Italian Society of Nephrology, the “Emilia and Romagna Section” of the Italian Society of Nephrology and the Fondazione Italiana del Rene Onlus. He has also been actively involved in the Italian Society of Nephrology’s Working Groups, previously serving as secretary and chairman of the Physical Exercise Working Group and currently as chairman of the Ultrasound Working Group. In 2024, he was elected as a member of the European Dialysis Working Group of the European Renal Association. He has published several articles and reviews in national and international journals.

Dr. Surya Nauli: " Improving kidney health through nanomedicine focuses on two main causes: inherited first-hit germline mutations and environmental second-hit somatic mutations. The proposed approach uses a two-step strategy to achieve organ-selectivity (kidney) and molecular-level targeting of cystic epithelial cells. Nanoparticles are applied to address kidney issues in general, with a particular emphasis on targeting polycystic kidneys.
