Adhesion involves surface interactions and interfaces/interphases that are relevant for improving or disturbing the joining of different materials, making it relevant to corrosion, the welding and joining of materials with adhesives, the durability and performance of composites, and coatings, among other areas.

Honoring my retirement from Academia, Materials presents this webinar, which examines the role of adhesion in the optimization and performance of formulated composites and adhesives, wettability, corrosion, structural bonding, and polyurethanes, and beyond. All speakers are internationally well-reputed and were invited by me due to their direct impact and influence on my scientific career as a result of their outstanding research approaches.

Marco Alfano is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo. His research covers the mechanics of solids and layered structures, such as composite materials and adhesive bonded joints. The interplay between manufacturing and structural performance is a highlight of Marco’s recent research work, which enjoys an even balance between analytical, computational and experimental methods in fracture mechanics. Marco is an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives (Elsevier), the Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology (Taylor and Francis) and Materials (MDPI).
