On Wednesday, 19 January 2022, MDPI and the Journal Metals organized the 1st Webinar on Metals, entitled "Metal Fatigue”. This online seminar was chaired by Prof. Dr. Cemal Basaran from the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, USA; and summarized recent advances in the study of metal fatigue by three prominent scientists in the field.

The first speaker to kick off the webinar was Prof. Dr. Filippo Berto, who discussed the use of strain energy density in fatigue design of structural welds. The second speaker was Prof. Dr. Stefano Beretta and he showed the influence of defects in fatigue life of printed additively manufactured metallic structures. Finally, Prof. Dr. C. Lakshmana Rao presented his work on the application of unified mechanics theory for fatigue life prediction without relying on fatigue test data. Their presentations were followed by Q&A sessions moderated by the chair.

The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend. The full recording can be found below. In order to stay updated on the next webinars on Metals, be sure to sign up for our newsletter by clicking on “Subscribe” at the top of the page.
