Prof. Dr. Yong Zhang

Beijing Advanced Innovation Center of Materials Genome Engineering, State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials, University of Science and Technology Beijing, China;
Yong Zhang obtained his PhD in 1998. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Science; a research fellow in the Singapore-MIT Alliance, National University of Singapore; and was promoted to be a full professor in the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB). He is currently a flexible appointed professor in the North Minzu University. He and his group members prepared the first single-crystal, high-entropy alloys, Al0.3CoCrFeNi and Al0.3CoCrFeNi2. The invention of trace rare earth elements can improve the glass-forming ability (GFA) of amorphous alloys, which have been widely used in academia and industries. He put forward the balance ratio parameter of information entropy and mixing enthalpy to evaluate the disorder in materials, which has been proven by a large number of documents to be effective in predicting the formation of random solid solution and amorphous phases.

On Tuesday 10th January 2023, MDPI and the Journal Metals organized the 4th Webinar on Metals entitled “ High-Entropy Alloys with Special Microstructures and Unique Properties”. This online seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Yong Zhang from the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center of Materials Genome Engineering, State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials, University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. Professor Dr. Yong Zhang was joined by Professor Dr. Qian Yu from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Also, Professor. Dr. João Pedro Oliveira from the Department of Materials Science, School of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon, Caparica, Portugal.

All scientists are responsible for contributing to the research surrounding high entropy alloys. This included the dynamic and cryogenic behavior of high-entropy alloys and the welding shape of memory alloys. The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend. The full recording can be found here on Sciforum website.
