
Welcome everyone to the first part of the Nanomaterials Webinar with the theme "Mechanics of Engineered Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications". We are very much honored to have several prominent scientists in nanomaterials research to present their exciting research and hear their vision towards a more environmentally friendly and energy efficient future as a materials researcher.
I would also like to take this chance to bring your attention about the call-for-papers for an on-going special issue with the same title of "Mechanics of Engineered Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications". All of our speakers and audiences are highly encouraged to submit your recent original research or comprehensive review to this special issue.

On Friday, 16 September 2022, MDPI and the Nanomaterials Journal organized the 8th Nanomaterials webinar, entitled "Mechanics of Engineered Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications I".
The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Prof. Dr. Ming Dao. He is the Principal Investigator and Director of MIT’s Nanomechanics Laboratory, a Principal Research Scientist in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT.
The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Huajian Gao with his presentation "Mechanical Degradation in Battery Electrodes". He is a Chinese-American mechanician who is widely known for his contributions to the field of solid mechanics.
The second presentation was held by Prof. Dr. Lei Lu with her presentation "Gradient Nanostructured Metallic Materials". In 2005, she became a full professor in Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science at Institute of Metal Research.
She was followed by Prof. Dr. Ju Li and his presentation "Towards Universal Neural Network Interatomic Potential". He is Battelle Energy Alliance Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT.
The last presenter was Dr. Chris San Marchi and talked about the "Influence of Internal Hydrogen on Deformation and Damage in Austenitic Stainless Steels". He is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore CA.
Each presentation was followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair Prof. Dr. Ming Dao. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
