Welcome everyone to the second part of the Nanomaterials Webinar with the theme "Mechanics of Engineered Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications". We are very much honored to have several prominent scientists in nanomaterials research to present their exciting research and hear their vision towards a more environmentally friendly and energy efficient future as a materials researcher.

I would also like to take this chance to bring your attention about the call-for-papers for an on-going special issue with the same title of "Mechanics of Engineered Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications". All of our speakers and audiences are highly encouraged to submit your recent original research or comprehensive review to this special issue.

Meet Our Speakers

Dr. T. A. Venkatesh

Dr. T. A. Venkatesh

Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Stony Brook University, USA;
Dr. T. A. Venkatesh is currently an Associate Professor in the Materials Science and Chemical Engineering department at Stony Brook University. He received his doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering and also obtained a minor in business administration from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA. Through modeling and experimental approaches, his research group is focused on understanding material behaviour such as mechanical strength, cracking, environmental effects, fatigue and high temperature responses and in developing materials with long-term durability and reliability, which are applicable to systems such as off-shore wind farms. He is the recipient of National Science Foundation’s Early Career Award for his efforts to understand fatigue behaviour of materials. He is also the principal investigator, leading a large, multi-disciplinary University-National Laboratory-Industry effort, with MIT and Stanford, in developing advanced materials for the hydrogen economy. Alongside research in materials science, Dr. Venkatesh is also interested in understanding innovations and their influences on market dynamics and assessing market animations for breakthrough technologies.

On Friday, 30 September 2022, MDPI and the Nanomaterials Journal organized the 9th Nanomaterials webinar, entitled "Mechanics of Engineered Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications II".

The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Dr. T. A. Venkatesh. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Materials Science and Chemical Engineering department at Stony Brook University.

The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Taher Saif with his presentation "Order From Chaos in Living Materials". He is Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at University of Illinois.

He was followed by Prof. Dr. Ting Zhu and his presentation "Mechanics of Extremely Heterogenous Materials". He is a Woodruff Professor in the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.

The last speaker, Dr. Cem Tasan talked about "Damage-Resistant Multi-Layered Hydrogen Permeation Barrier Coatings". He is Thomas B. King Associate Professor of Metallurgy in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT.

Each presentation was followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair Dr. T. A. Venkatesh. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
