9th Nutrients Webinar

Advances in Grain Nutrition, Omics and Cardiometabolic Health

Grains are widely consumed all over the world as they provide calories, macronutrients, micronutrients, dietary fibers, minerals, and plenty of phytochemicals that may have prolonged effects on human metabolism. High-throughput omics techniques enable a comprehensive understanding of the biological perturbations associated with dietary intake and other environmental exposures. A combination of traditional populations studies, such as cohorts, and RCTs, with multi-omics measurement, provide great opportunities to advance our knowledge of how the consumption of different grains affects human health. With particular interest in the effects of whole grains, refined grains, or staple foods, we are very excited to have invited outstanding pioneer scientists in the fields of nutritional epidemiology, precision nutrition, and multi-omics studies to this webinar to share their research output with the nutrition academic communities.

Meet Our Speakers

Prof. Rikard Landberg

Prof. Rikard Landberg

Food and Nutrition Science, Life Sciences, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden;
Rikard Landberg is professor of Food and Health. His group is studying the impact of food and food components may have on health and disease risk in observational and intervention studies as well as in various model systems. The role of plant-based fiber-rich food in appetite, hormonal regulation and cardiometabolic risk factors have a major focus. The group also develops and evaluates biomarkers of dietary exposure used in epidemiological research. Nutritional metabolomics ( MS- and NMR- techniques) has become increasingly important in research to find new biomarkers for both exposures disease risk. The group collaborates extensively with international expertise in statistics, epidemiology and medicine.

Dr. Lin Shi

Dr. Lin Shi

School of Food Engineering and Nutritional Science, Shaanxi Normal University, China;
Dr. Lin Shi is an associate professor at College of Food Engineering and Nutritional Science, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi’an, China. She received the doctoral degree in Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in 2017, and worked as postdoc scholar at Chalmers University of Technology. Dr. Shi is specialized in application of Nutritional "OMICS" Technologies in human cohorts, randomized controlled trails and animal studies, aiming to improve understanding of functional foods and nutritional factors on health promotion. Current research primarily focuses on the diet- gut microbiome interaction and its related health issues. She has published over 40 papers in reputable journals, such as Nature communications, Diabetologia, Redox Biology, and Food Research International.

Dr. Wanglong Gou

Dr. Wanglong Gou

School of Life Sciences, Westlake University, China.;
Dr. Wanglong Gou is a postdoctoral researcher at Westlake University, specializing in nutritional epidemiology and multi-omics research. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Zhejiang University (jointly trained by Zhejiang University and Westlake University). His research focuses on the integration of machine learning methods with multi-omics datasets (including microbiome, proteomics, metabolomics and genetics) in human cohorts to identify novel biomarkers for cardiometabolic diseases. He also interested in the Nutri-microbiome epidemiology and precision nutrition. He has authored a total of 31 academic papers, including Diabetes Care, Protein & Cell, Diabetologia, BMC Medicine, and AJCN. Notably, his work published in Diabetes Care was selected as one of the "Top 15 Original Research Studies in Nutrition" by the Chinese Nutrition Society's Nutrition and Health Research Institute in 2021.
