
Good morning/afternoon everyone, and welcome to today's webinar, "Advances in Supercritical CO₂ Processing: From Industrial Scale-Up to Drug Delivery Systems."
It is my pleasure to moderate this session, which brings together two complementary perspectives on one of the most versatile and sustainable technologies available in modern process engineering.
Supercritical carbon dioxide has evolved from being a niche processing medium to becoming a powerful platform for applications ranging from large-scale industrial manufacturing to the development of highly sophisticated pharmaceutical and biomedical products. Thanks to its unique physicochemical properties, supercritical CO₂ enables solvent reduction, mild operating conditions, precise control of material properties, and environmentally friendly processing routes.
Today's webinar has been designed to illustrate this broad spectrum of applications through two invited presentations.
Our first speaker, Prof. Renata Adami from the University of Salerno, will discuss how supercritical CO₂ technologies can be successfully translated from laboratory research to industrial-scale implementation, highlighting the challenges and opportunities associated with process scale-up.
The second presentation, delivered by Dr. Pier Francesco Ferrari from the University of Genoa, will focus on the use of supercritical-assisted processes for the encapsulation of bioactive compounds into liposomes, demonstrating how these technologies are contributing to the development of innovative drug delivery systems with enhanced performance and sustainability.
