It is my pleasure to invite you to the upcoming webinar dedicated to Extemporaneous Pharmaceutical Formulations and Personalized Medicines. This event will bring together distinguished experts and practitioners to discuss the evolving role of customised medications within modern healthcare.
Extemporaneous formulations embody the true essence of personalised medicine — allowing for tailored treatments that respond to specific patient needs when industrially manufactured products are unavailable or unsuitable. Recent advances in compounding technologies, materials, and regulatory approaches have strengthened the scientific foundation of these preparations, ensuring higher standards of quality, safety, and reproducibility.
At the same time, this field continues to face important challenges — from standardisation and scalability to ensuring consistent therapeutic outcomes. Through this webinar, we aim to explore how innovation, collaboration, and patient-centred thinking can transform these challenges into opportunities for growth and global health improvement.
I warmly thank our invited speakers, Professor Milap Nahata from the Ohio State University, Doctor Karolina Dziemidowicz from the University College of London, and Professor Antonio Lopalco from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, for sharing their expertise and insights, and all those who will participate by joining us in the discussion. Meet Our Speakers
Prof. Dr. Milap Nahata
Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine, Ohio State University, USA;
Doctor Milap C. Nahata is the Founding Director of the Institute of Therapeutic Innovations and Outcomes (ITIO) and Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University (OSU). He began his academic career at OSU in 1977 and served as Chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Science (1998–2013), leading nationally recognized advancements in clinical pharmacy education, research, and practice. An internationally respected educator, he has taught over 6,000 pharmacy students and mentored more than 200 residents, fellows, and graduate students. Dr. Nahata has received numerous national teaching and research awards, including the Remington Honor Medal, Harvey Whitney Lecture Award, AACP Lifetime Achievement Award, and Sumner Yaffe Lifetime Achievement Award in Pediatric Pharmacology. He has authored or coauthored nearly 700 scientific publications and five books, served as Editor-in-Chief of The Annals of Pharmacotherapy since 2006, and delivered over 400 invited lectures worldwide. Dr. Nahata is a Fellow of seven major scientific and professional societies, a lifetime member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine, and a past President of both AACP and ACCP. Through ITIO, he continues to advance medication therapy management and patient-centered pharmacotherapy nationwide.
Dr. Karolina Dziemidowicz
School of Pharmacy, University College London, United Kingdom;
Dr Karolina Dziemidowicz is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics and a practising pharmacist. She obtained her MPharm degree from King's College London in 2015. During her undergraduate studies, Karolina undertook her MPharm dissertation at Utrecht University (Pharmaceutics Department). She completed her Pharmacist foundation training at AstraZeneca (Macclesfield, UK) and Manchester University hospital. Afterwards, she joined UCL for a PhD studentship within the CDT in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines, where she worked on antibody-functionalised biomaterials for cancer immunotherapy. Shortly after obtaining her PhD, she moved to the Centre for Nerve Engineering for a one-year postdoctoral project on the preclinical testing of drug-eluting biomaterials for peripheral nerve injury. In 2021, she was awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize individual fellowship to work on designing neuroprotective biomaterials for dura regeneration following spinal cord injury. She established her own research group in 2022.
Dr. Antonio Lopalco
Department of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy;
Antonio Lopalco holds a master’s degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Bari in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Palermo in 2012. After completing postdoctoral work in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas, he was appointed to associate researcher in that Department in 2015. He joined the faculty of the Department of Pharmacy – Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Bari Aldo Moro in 2016 and worked his way up through the academic ranks to become an Associate Professor in 2019. Doctor Lopalco’ research interests have included the development of innovative drug delivery systems, age-related formulations and extemporaneous formulations. Dr. Lopalco is the author or co-author of more than 85 research articles and 5 patents. He serves as a reviewer for several international scientific journals and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Elsevier) and Pharmaceutics (MDPI).
