Prof. Dr. Silvio Tafuri

Prof. Dr. Silvio Tafuri

Silvio Tafuri was born in Brindisi (Italy) on 1980, 17 August. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Bari School of Medicine in 2005, In 2008, he achieved post-degree in Public Health, and in 2013, he obtained a Ph.D. in Hygiene, Public Health and Food Safety. He is a consultant with the Apulian Observatory for Epidemiology in the field of vaccination strategies, surveillance of infectious diseases and adverse events following immunization. From 2014 to March 2020, he has served as Assistant Professor of Public Health at the Bari School of Medicine, and from March 2020 to April 2021, as Associate Professor of Public Health. Since April 2021, he has served as a Full Professor of Public Health. He works as a consultant in the Public Health Unit of the Policlinico Bari General Hospital, in which he is charged with the management of vaccination activities; since March 2020, he has worked as Chief of the COVID19 Control Room Unit. He is the author of 250 articles, published in international scientific journals (IF >650, h-index 24); the most of his scientific papers focus on the field of vaccinology and the prevention of infectious diseases.

Webinar Content

On Wednesday, 27 April 2022, MDPI and the Journal Vaccines organized the second webinar on Vaccines, entitled "The Post-marketing Life of Vaccines".

The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Prof. Dr. Silvio Tafuri, a Full Professor of Public Health at the University of Bari in Italy. He is the author of 250 articles, published in international scientific journals and the most of his scientific papers focus on the field of vaccinology and the prevention of infectious diseases.

The first speaker to kick off this webinar was Dr. Pasquale Stefanizzi. From July 2020, he has been an Assistant Professor of Public Health at the School of Medicine in Bari. He is author of over 50 articles published in international scientific journals; the major part of scientific paper is in the field of vaccinology and of the prevention and epidemiology of infectious diseases. His presentation was entitled "Adverse Events Following Immunization and Causality Assessment: Data of Apulian Italian Region".

The second presentation with the title "Post-marketing Research of Herd Immunity Effects of COVID-19 Vaccines" was held by Dr. Pedro Plans-Rubió. He is responsible for the Health Registries at the Public Health Agency of Catalonia, Health Department of Catalonia in Spain. His research focuses on the evaluation of medicines, vaccines and health programs, epidemiology of risk factors for chronic diseases and infectious diseases, epidemiology of infectious diseases, sero-epidemiological evaluation of vaccination programs, and cost-effectiveness analysis of medicines and health programs.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
