Dear Colleagues.
On behalf of Biosensors, I am pleased to invite you to our webinar, “Recent Advances in Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Biosensors,” to be held on 9 December 2026 at 7:00 a.m. U.S. Central Standard Time (UTC−6).
Electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL), also known as electrochemiluminescence, combines electrochemical control with sensitive optical detection, providing a powerful platform for biosensing and biological imaging. Advances in ECL chemistry, signal control, and instrumentation are extending its applications from laboratory analysis to point-of-need detection.
We are delighted to welcome two distinguished speakers. Professor Conor Hogan of La Trobe University, Australia, will present “Electrochemiluminescence Biosensors: Signal Control for Point-of-Need Detection.” Professor Neso Sojic of the Institute of Molecular Sciences in Bordeaux, France, will present “Electrochemiluminescence Sensing and Imaging: From Biomolecules to Cells.” Their presentations will highlight complementary approaches to developing practical ECL biosensors and exploring biological systems through ECL imaging.
This webinar will be of interest to researchers, students, and professionals working in electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, biosensing, bioimaging, and related fields. Each presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session, offering participants an opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.
We look forward to welcoming you to an engaging discussion of recent advances and future directions in ECL biosensing.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, The University of Southern Mississippi, USA;Dr. Wujian Miao is a Full Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Southern Mississippi, where he has served since 2004. He earned his Ph.D. at Monash University under Professor Alan M. Bond and conducted postdoctoral research with Professor Allen J. Bard at The University of Texas at Austin. His expertise encompasses electroanalytical chemistry, with particular emphasis on electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL), its mechanisms, and applications in chemical sensors and biosensors. His research integrates ECL with molecularly imprinted polymers and nanomaterials for sensitive, selective detection of biomolecules, illicit drugs, and explosives. He has authored approximately 60 peer-reviewed papers and eight book chapters and holds a US/WO patent. An NSF CAREER Award recipient, Dr. Miao has been recognized among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists in the Stanford–Elsevier database for multiple years since 2019.
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science, La Trobe University, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.;Professor Conor Hogan is a global leader in electrochemiluminescence (ECL), with core expertise in analytical chemistry, electrochemistry, and photophysics. His research lies at the intersection of these fields, spanning both fundamental and strategic work to develop new materials, molecules, and insights, alongside applied research focused on translating scientific breakthroughs into biosensor technologies for real-world applications such as medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. Given the multidisciplinary nature of sensor technology, Conor’s research group collaborates across diverse areas including chemistry, biochemistry, physics, materials science, electronic engineering, and software engineering. He has led pioneering advances in ECL multiplexing and significantly advanced understanding of mixed ECL systems. One of his recent innovations is the development of "AudioDAC Voltammetry"a patented technique enabling instrument-free voltammetry using mobile devices such as smartphones. This technology is currently being commercialized. In 2019, Conor established and was the inaugural Director of the Biomedical and Environmental Sensor Technology (BEST) Centre, at La Trobe University, which has become the university’s most successful centre in research translation and commercialisation. He achieved this by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and strong industry partnerships. Conor is now the Director of the ARC Industry Transformation Research Hub for Molecular Biosensors at Point-of-Use (MOBIUS), located at La Trobe University, in Melbourne.
University of Bordeaux, CNRS, Bordeaux INP, ISM, Talence, France;Neso Sojic is a professor in the Institut des Sciences Moléculaires (University of Bordeaux, Bordeaux INP, CNRS). He received his PhD in electrochemistry from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris, France). After postdoctoral studies at the University of Texas at Dallas, he joined the faculty at the University of Bordeaux (France). His main research interests are in analytical electrochemistry, electrochemiluminescence, bioelectrochemistry, imaging and fiber optic sensors.
