It is a pleasure to announce our coming Catalysts Webinar, dealing with catalysis by palladium, a precious, noble, Platinum group metal. In spite of the high price of this catalyst, the catalytic results obtained with it justify its use in catalysis. In this webinar, two speakers will share their most recent findings on catalysis by this metal in sustainable conditions.

Meet Our Speakers
Prof. Dr. Sónia Carabineiro
Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal;
Sónia Carabineiro graduated in Applied Chemistry at the New University of Lisbon, Portugal and obtained her Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering (Catalysis) in 2001 at the same University.
She was Post Doctoral Researcher from 2001 to 2003 at Leiden University, The Netherlands and from 2004 to 2007 at the University of Lisbon, Portugal.
From 2007 to 2013 she was Assistant Researcher at the University of Porto, Portugal, and Principal Researcher from 2013 to 2018.
In 2019 she was Invited (Visiting) Professor in the Wuhan Textile University, China and Integrated Researcher at the University of Lisbon. She obtained Habilitation in Chemistry at the same University.
In 2020 she became an Assistant Professor at the New University of Lisbon.
She is (co-)author more than 20 chapters in books, more than 160 articles in international scientific journals, more than 200 communications to national and international conferences, and more than 15 invited talks. She is co-inventor of 1 worldwide patent, evaluator of several international project proposals (including European Research Council grants). She has more than 5300 citations and a h index of 41 (Scopus).
She is a regular referee of several international journals, being currently one of the top female reviewers in the world (Publons Clarivate). She is also a member of the Editorial and Reviewer Boards of several journals, including Catalysts and Nanomaterials (from MDPI). She was included in the list of the worldwide most cited scientists (top 2% of Chemistry) published by Stanford University in 2020.
Her research interests deal with catalysts by gold nanoparticles, single and mixed metal oxides, nanostructured carbon materials (including carbon nanotubes and graphene), heterogenization of homogenous complexes, gas and liquid phase oxidations, and environmental catalysis.
On Friday, 4 June 2021, MDPI and the Journal Catalysts organized the 9th webinar on Catalysts, entitled "Catalysis by Palladium".
The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Prof. Dr. Sónia Carabineiro from the Nova University of Lisbon in Portugal. Her research interests deal with catalysts by gold nanoparticles, single and mixed metal oxides, nanostructured carbon materials (including carbon nanotubes and graphene), heterogenization of homogenous complexes, gas and liquid phase oxidations, and environmental catalysis. She is an author of more than 20 chapters in books and over 160 articles in international scientific journals, and also a member of the Editorial and Reviewer Boards of several journals, including Catalysts and Nanomaterials.
The first speaker to quick off this webinar was Prof. Dr. Maria Michela Dell'Anna. Her main scientific interests are focused in the field of heterogeneous catalysts, especially in the development of polymer supported metal nanoparticles as catalysts for organic reactions under sustainable conditions. She is an Associate Professor at Politecnico di Bari in Italy and her presentation was entitled "Palladium Versus Nickel Nanoparticles as Catalysts Under Sustainable Conditions".
The second presentation with the title "Sustainable Synthesis Enabled by Palladium Catalysis in Deep Eutectic Solvents" was held by Prof. Dr. Antonio Salomone from the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” in Italy. His current research activity is related to the development of green synthetic methodologies enabled by transition metal catalysis.
The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
