For the first presenter: Dr. Kishore A.T. (Theme: Smart UTM-enabled Vertiports for BVLOS Autonomous Flying)
Q: What is the maximum allowable distance between a ground station and a UAV functioning as a Non-Terrestrial Network node, assuming they are connected via cellular infrastructure, to maintain a stable link connection? Additionally, what would be the highest operational altitude for the UAV under these conditions?
Dr. Kishore answer:
A: Using 5G and 6G cellular infrastructure, it will be feasible to support vertical reach of permissible height up to one km, subject to regulator approvals.
From a wireless technology point of view, we can reach 5 km height given adequate transmitter power and receiver sensitivity on both sides.
We foresee a lot of discussion on these by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and DGCA in India soon.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer has to replace routine WiFi frequency with cellular carrier-grade compatible hardware and antennae.
