As the organizer and Chair, Prof. James Weifu Lee welcomes you all to attend this 2022 MDPI Energies Webinar Seminar Series program on Advanced Thermodynamics, Type-B Energetic Processes and Their Applications. This topic area recently has seen some exciting new breakthroughs that are potentially transformative to the sciences, technologies, and education of Energies, including the recent breakthrough identification of two thermodynamically distinct types (A and B) of energetic processes naturally occurring on Earth. Type A energetic process such as the classical heat engines apparently well follow the second law of thermodynamics; Type B energetic process, such as the newly discovered thermotrophic function that isothermally utilizes environmental heat energy to do useful work in driving ATP synthesis, which follows the first law of thermodynamics (conservation of mass and energy), but do not have to be constrained by the second law, owning to their special asymmetric functions. Better understanding of Type-B energy processes is particularly of great scientific and practical importance. Innovative scientific research and development efforts in mimicking and/or creating of Type-B processes to isothermally utilize the endless environmental heat energy shall be highly encouraged to help ultimately liberate all peoples from their dependence of fossil fuel energy, thus helping to reduce greenhouse gas CO2 emissions and control climate change towards a common shared sustainable future for the humanity on Earth.
