
On Tuesday, 30 August 2022, MDPI and the Fire Journal organized the 2nd Fire webinar, entitled "Effects of Fire on Biodiversity".
The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Dr. Eva Strand. She is an Associate Professor of Landscape Ecology at the Department of Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences at the University of Idaho. She has a PhD in Natural Resources from the University of Idaho.
The first speaker was Dr. Helen Poulos and Dr. Andrew Barton with their presentation "Fire Effects on Madrean Sky Island Forest Community Composition and Diversity". Dr. Poulos is a plant ecologist who examines the influences of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on local-, landscape-, and regional-scale plant distribution patterns. Dr. Barton is a forest and fire ecologist, science writer, and professor of biology.
The second presentation was held by Dr. Dolors Armenteras with her presentation "Fire Reduces Neotropical Forest Diversity in Northernmost South American Savannas". Her research interests focus mostly on tropical landscapes that are hotspots of deforestation and fragmentation.
The last presentation was held by Dr. Roger Williams and it was entitled "Effects of Wildfire and the Presence of the Invasive Paulownia tomentosa on the Regeneration of Native Tree Species in North-Central Appalachia". He is Associate Professor of Forest Management & Wildland Fire Science.
The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair Dr. Eva Strand. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
