This webinar, titled “The Transformative Role of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) in Chronic Liver Disease,” brought together leading experts to discuss how advanced ultrasound techniques are improving the diagnosis and management of liver diseases. The session highlighted the growing role of CEUS and elastography as non-invasive, real-time tools that enhance diagnostic accuracy while improving patient safety. Dr. Francesco Giangregorio opened the webinar with an overview of the characterization of benign and malignant focal liver lesions using CEUS, explaining how dynamic contrast patterns can help to differentiate conditions such as hepatocellular carcinoma, metastases, hemangiomas, and focal nodular hyperplasia. Prof. Carla Serra then presented on hepatic vascular evaluation with CEUS, demonstrating its value in assessing hepatic hemodynamics, vessel patency, and complications related to portal hypertension and vascular disorders. Finally, Prof. Giovanna Ferraioli discussed the role of elastography in evaluating liver fibrosis and steatosis, emphasizing its ability to provide quantitative, non-invasive assessment that can function as a “virtual biopsy.” Together, the presentations illustrated how integrating CEUS and elastography into clinical practice can significantly enhance the diagnostic pathway for patients with chronic liver disease.
