Additive Manufacturing and Topology Optimization of Microstructures
Topology optimization is the modern approach for flexible optimal design of structures and microstructures. Additive manufacturing, known also as rapid prototyping or 3D printing makes feasible the creation of structures of any shape and topology, including microstructures. Exchange of information between the two disciplines, the state of the art development and expected steps for the near future is the topic of the present webinar.

Invited Speakers
New York University, Abu Dhabi Campus & Tandon School of Engineering, UAE & USA
Nikos Karathanasopoulos is interested in the mechanics and design of advanced materials and structures. He has a master's in Structural Engineering, Mechanics, and Materials from UC Berkeley and a PhD from ETH Zürich in Switzerland. His research interests include the analysis, simulation, and design of advanced materials commonly known as «metamaterials» with extra-ordinary mechanical and functional attributes, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in engineering.
Dr. Demetris has more than ten years of experience in product development, design, and research. His background in engineering and academia offers a unique combination of design thinking and pragmatic strategy that addresses complex strategic business and product problems within a defined framework. His research interests are focused on the computational modeling with finite elements of nanoindentation on a variety of emerging materials systems like auxetics, thin film systems, super-hard materials and bulk metallic glasses. His PhD research work, formulated new indentation-based relationships through computational analysis and developed a new framework for experimental protocols and design-for-experiment strategies toward material optimization.
Digital Manufacturing and Materials Characterization Laboratory, International Hellenic University, School of Science and Technology, Thessaloniki, Greece
Nikolaos Kladovasilakis is a Ph. D candidate at International Hellenic University and an associate researcher at the Information Technologies Institute of Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. He is also working as a contracted mechanical designer and engineer at robotic industry. His research mainly focuses on additive manufacturing, development of advanced mechanical structures, finite element analysis (FEA) and topology optimization processes.
