Welcome to the Corrosion Process of Metals: Mechanisms and Protections Methods webinar!
Corrosion is a critical issue affecting multiple industries, including automotive, marine, chemical, biomedical, aerospace, construction, and electronics, with annual losses in the United States estimated at approximately USD 250 billion. To mitigate this impact, it is essential to understand the mechanisms of corrosion in different alloys and to apply effective protection methods that extend material service life. The performance of protective strategies depends strongly on environmental conditions, making the correct selection of methods vital. Common approaches include passivation, anodizing, inhibitors, cathodic protection, advanced coatings, and thermal spray techniques such as HVOF or plasma. The choice of coating—whether it isa organic, inorganic, metallic, ceramic, or a hybrid—can significantly reduce costs and improve durability. Moreover, linking protection techniques to the underlying corrosion mechanisms enhances their effectiveness and reliability. A comprehensive approach to corrosion control not only preserves materials but also ensures safety and economic efficiency across diverse industries.
