Physician and clinical researcher, focused to the management of patients with severe liver diseases, and of liver transplanted patients. Degree in Internal Medicine in 1994 at the University of Padova (Italy). From 1995 to 1996 visiting professor of medicine at the International Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Area Science Park (Trieste, Italy). From 2010 to 2016 president of the liver transplant commission of the Italian association for the study of the liver. In 2011, honorary degree of transplant hepatologist from the European board of transplant medicine and in 2012 from the Italian association for the study of the liver. In 2012, acquisition of national eligibility for the role of full professor of internal medicine and full professor of gastroenterology. Since 2018 director of the Hepatology and liver transplantation unit at the academic hospital-University of Udine (Italy). Author of more than 200 English language peer review papers cited in PubMed and of one book chapter in liver transplantation. Reviewer of plenty authoritative international Journals, mainly in the field of Hepatology and Gastroenterology.

Dr Konstantinidis was born and raised in Greece and graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Medical School. He completed research fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer with several seminal publications. He completed his complex general surgical oncology fellowship at City of Hope National Cancer Center and he is currently an assistant professor at Texas Tech University. His clinical and research focus are pancreas and hepatobiliary cancer, stomach cancer, HIPEC, robotic surgery and patient frailty.

Dr. Yuman Fong is the Sangiacomo Chair and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the City of Hope Medical Center. Dr. Fong is best known for his extensive work in the field of liver and pancreatic surgery. He helped usher in robotic techniques for HPB surgery. He is editor of the SAGES Atlas of Robotic Surgery. For his clinical work, he was awarded the Layton F. Rikkers Master Clinician Award from the SSAT. He has assisted in the design and deployment of many novel surgical tools. For his contributions to surgical research, he has been awarded the Flance-Karl Award from American Surgical Association. His work in medical engineering has led to his election to the American Institute of Medical and Biologic Engineering. His laboratory focus is in design of gene and immune cell therapies for cancer. His leadership on the national level has included serving as the Chair of the Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee (RAC) of the National Institutes of Health. He is Founding Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Therapy Oncolytics (Cell Press, official journal of the ASGCT). He has co-authored over 1000 papers (h-index=141) and 22 textbooks. He has also been elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigation and to the National Academy of Medicine.

Dr Maria Guarino, MD, PhD., is a Gastroenterologist with special interests in liver diseases. She is teaching assistant at the School of Medicine, University of Naples “Federico II”. Since December 2018 she has been an Attending Physician, at the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit of the University Hospital “Federico II” of Naples. During 2017 and 2018 she attended a Basic Research fellowship at the Hepatology Unit, Department of Clinical Research, Inselspital, University of Bern, Switzerland – mentor Prof. Jean-François Dufour.

Professor Burra is Full Professor of Gastroenterology and Head of the Multivisceral Transplantation Unit at Padua University, Italy. Between 2015 and 2021 she was ViceRector on Research Training at Padua University, Italy. From 2021 she is Rector’s Delegate for Specialisation Schools and the Centre for Post Graduate Specialised Training at Padua University, Italy. Patrizia Burra is clinically and scientifically interested in studies in the field of liver transplantation, mainly with regard to HBV prophylaxis after transplantation, liver transplantation for NAFLD and NASH including evaluation of frailty and obesity, early liver transplantation for acute alcoholic hepatitis. In addition, she is involved in the clinical management of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and cholangiocarcinoma. Currently she is Chair of the Public Affairs Committee 2022–2025 at United European Gastroenterology (UEG) and General Secretary of the Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE). In 2021 she received the EASL recognition award 2021 and she obtained the Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (FAASLD). She is also President of the NGO Marina Minnaja Foundation for the research and study of liver transplantation. Currently she is Co-chair of The Lancet – EASL Commission on liver diseases in Europe from 2018 and Deputy Editor of Journal of Hepatology from 2019. She has authored over 370 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, with an H-index of 58.
