Centre for Applied Photonics, INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal;Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal;Pedro A. S. Jorge holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Porto (2006), following earlier training in Applied Physics, Optoelectronics, and Lasers. He is currently a Senior Researcher and team leader at the Centre for Applied Photonics of INESC TEC. He also serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, where he is the Director of the MSc in Physics Engineering. His research focuses on utilizing light-based technologies to sense, monitor, and analyze complex physical, chemical, and biological systems. His specific expertise spans optical fiber sensors, biosensors, laser-based spectroscopy, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), spectral imaging, optical instrumentation, and data-driven analytical systems. These technologies are applied across diverse fields, including environmental monitoring, biomedicine, industrial inspection, mineral analysis, aquaculture, and energy-related sensing. Dr. Jorge has led and contributed to a broad portfolio of national and international research projects, encompassing FCT, European, and industry-oriented initiatives. In these projects, he has served as Principal Investigator (PI), Work Package leader, and senior researcher. His recent work focuses on translating photonic concepts into robust experimental platforms and prototypes, frequently developed in close collaboration with academic, technological, and industrial partners. Throughout his career, he has co-authored more than 120 scientific journal publications, contributed to numerous conference communications, and holds several patents in photonic sensing technologies, including licensed intellectual property with translational impact. He is also actively involved in MSc and PhD supervision, scientific community service, conference organization, and providing advanced training in optics, photonics, and applied instrumentation.
