Prof. Dr. Dale D. Tang

Dale D. Tang is Professor of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Albany Medical College, New York, USA. He is Director of Cytoskeletal Signaling and Asthma Research Program at the school. Dr. Tang is an internationally recognized scientist on smooth muscle biology, cytoskeletal regulation of cell functions, and asthma pathogenesis. He is Editor-in-Chief of Respiratory Research, a leading journal in the area of respiratory medicine and research. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports. His research has been funded by multiple NIH grants. He has published > 80 peer-reviewed articles in journals including iScience, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Circulation Research. He has served on many NIH and American Heart Association study sections and review panels. He is a Fellow of the American Thoracic Society and a member of the American Physiological Society.

On Friday 11th November 2022 , MDPI and the Journal Cells organized the 21st Webinar on Cells entitled “ Airway Smooth Muscle and Asthma”. This online seminar was chaired by Professor. Dr. Dale D. Tang from the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Albany Medical College, Albany, NY, USA. He was joined by Professor. Dr. Raymond Penn from the Department of Medicine, Center for Translational Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, USA, and Professor. Dr. Chun Seow from the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, British Columbia University, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

In this webinar, Dr. Raymond Penn described the exciting new development of research on biasing GPCR signaling in airway smooth muscle as a therapeutic approach. After introducing the background of airway biophysics, Dr. Chun Seow reported a new novel ex vivo lung model for research of lung biology and pathology. Furthermore, Dr. Dale Tang described the major endotypes of asthma and presented new evidence to uncover inflammation-independent asthma. Each talk was followed by In-depth and vigorous discussion, and the successful completion of the webinar advances our knowledge regarding airway smooth muscle biology and asthma pathogenesis. Their presentations were followed by Q&A session moderated by the chairs.
