The 2nd International Conference on Advanced Remote Sensing

Observing Change, Enabling Decisions

09 - 11 June 2027
Rome, Italy

Welcome from
the chairs

We are delighted to welcome you to the International Conference on Advanced Remote Sensing (ICARS 2027) – “Observing Change, Enabling Decisions”, which will take place from 9 to 11 June 2027 in Rome, Italy.

ICARS 2027 will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, public-sector representatives, and early-career scientists to explore the latest advances and practical applications of remote sensing and Earth Observation. At a time when societies are facing complex environmental, social, and governance challenges, remote sensing plays an increasingly important role in supporting evidence-based decisions, strengthening resilience, and enabling responsible action.

The conference program will feature dedicated sessions on Remote Sensing for Policy, Governance and Public Administration, highlighting practical applications and decision-support tools for municipalities, ministries, disaster management agencies, and European/Copernicus users. The plenary strand on Peace, Equity and Responsible Earth Observation will address timely issues such as conflict monitoring, humanitarian mapping, environmental justice, open-data ethics, responsible AI, and digital divides in access to Earth Observation information.

Taking advantage of Rome’s unique historical and urban context, ICARS 2027 will also explore Cultural Heritage, Infrastructure Resilience and Urban Climate Adaptation, showcasing how remote sensing can support heritage preservation, urban resilience, climate adaptation, and public-sector decision-making. In addition, the EO 2040: The Next Generation of Earth Observation stream will provide a platform for young and early-career researchers to present emerging ideas in AI-native sensing systems, quantum and edge processing, future hyperspectral missions, citizen Earth Observation, and trusted decision-support systems for public institutions.

ICARS 2027 will offer a rich scientific programme including invited lectures, oral and poster presentations, thematic sessions, and networking opportunities designed to encourage dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange across disciplines and sectors.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rome for an inspiring and engaging conference dedicated to advancing remote sensing science and its contribution to informed, responsible, and impactful decision-making.

Sincerely,

Prof. Prof. Dr. Andrea Benedetto, Dr. Fabio Tosti and Prof. Dr. Luis Ángel Ruiz
