Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the 1st International Online Conference on Molecules (IOCMO 2027), organized by the open access journal Molecules (ISSN 1420-3049, Impact Factor: 5.1, CiteScore: 10.3) and published by MDPI. This inaugural edition of IOCMO will be held online and aims to provide a vibrant international platform for researchers, scientists, and practitioners to share their latest findings, exchange ideas, and foster new collaborations across the broad field of molecular sciences.

As a comprehensive and interdisciplinary conference, IOCMO 2027 is designed to reflect the wide scope of Molecules and to bring together diverse research communities working at the frontiers of chemistry and related disciplines. The scientific program will cover a broad range of topics, including the following sessions:

S1. Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry;
S2. Natural Products Chemistry and Food Chemistry;
S3. Bioorganic Chemistry and Chemical Biology;
S4. Inorganic, Coordination, Photo- and Electrochemistry;
S5. Materials, Macromolecular and Nanochemistry;
S6. Analytical Chemistry and Molecular Sensing;
S7. Physical, Computational and Theoretical Chemistry;
S8. Applied and Green Chemistry, Sustainable Technologies.

Through these sessions, IOCMO 2027 aims to showcase cutting-edge research, innovative methodologies, and emerging trends that are shaping the future of molecular science. The conference’s online format will enable broad global participation, creating opportunities for meaningful scientific exchange among established researchers, early-career scientists, and students from around the world.

We believe that IOCMO 2027 will serve as an open and inclusive forum to stimulate interdisciplinary dialog, promote collaboration across subfields, and inspire new directions in both fundamental and applied research. All accepted contributions will be published online, ensuring the wide dissemination and long-term visibility of your work.

We warmly invite you to join us at IOCMO 2027 and to contribute to the success of this inaugural conference. We look forward to your participation and to engaging and fruitful scientific exchange.

Prof. Dr. Thomas J. Schmidt

Editor-in-Chief, Molecules;Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry, University of Münster, Münster, Germany;Thomas J. Schmidt, born in 1963, studied Pharmacy (1986-1990) and obtained his doctorate in Pharmaceutical Biology (1990-1994) as well as the habilitation (1999) at the University of Düsseldorf, Germany. He was a DFG post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Chemistry, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, USA, in 1995. After habilitation, he became an assistant professor in Düsseldorf and then took a professorship of Pharmaceutical Biology and Phytochemistry at the University of Münster, Germany, in 2005. In 2009, he was a visiting Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and is the founder and European coordinator of the Research Network Natural Products against Neglected Diseases (ResNet NPND). He is a member of various scientific societies and boards and has received several awards for his work, which was published in over 200 publications. Most of his scientific work is dedicated to the isolation, structural characterization and computer-aided structure-bioactivity relationship studies of new natural products from plants, with a strong emphasis on anti-cancer and anti-infective compounds against neglected tropical diseases. He has served on the editorial board of Molecules as Associate Editor since 2014, was the section Editor-in-Chief for Natural Products Chemistry from 2016-2023 and is the journal’s EiC since September 2023.
