Prof. Dr. Shoujin Sun
School of Engineering and Built Environment, Griffith University, Australia;
Professor Sun is an internationally recognized researcher in the advanced manufacturing of titanium alloys including laser materials processing, high-speed machining and additive manufacturing. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Northeastern University, China in 1985, Master of Engineering degree from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 and his PhD degree from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 1998. Professor Shoujin Sun has conducted his research into the processing and characterization of metal and carbon matrix composite materials, laser materials processing, materials deformation of metals during high-speed marching and additive manufacturing (3D printing). He has received multiple national and international research awards including the 1st class of Science and Technology Progress Award by Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2nd class of Chinese National Science and Technology Progress Award, Commercialization Award by CAST CRC, Gordon Dunlop Award for Scientific Excellence in Research Leading to a Technological Achievement by CAST CRC, and most recently the prestigious Thatcher Bros Prize 2017 by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), UK.

On Thursday, 18 August 2022, MDPI and the Metals Journal organized the 4th webinar on Metals, entitled "Frontiers of Additive Manufacturing: Technologies, Structures and Materials".
The introduction was held by the Chair of the webinar, Prof. Dr. Shoujin Sun. He is an internationally recognized researcher in the advanced manufacturing of titanium alloys, including laser materials processing, high-speed machining and additive manufacturing.
The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Michael Schmidt with his presentation "Beam Shaping for Laser Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing". He holds the chair of the Institute of Photonic Technologies at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
The second presentation was held by Prof. Dr. Lin Li with his presentation "Multi-Material 3D Printing". He is a Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering and holds a chair of laser engineering at The University of Manchester UK.
The last presentation was held by Prof. Dr. Stefanie Feih and it was entitled "Design and Stimulation of Lightweight Structures for Additive Manufacturing". She recently commenced as a Professor in the School for Engineering and Built Environment at Griffith University.
The presentations were followed by a Q&A and a discussion, moderated by the Chair Prof. Dr. Shoujin Sun. The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend.
