Welcome from the Chair
Dear Colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to announce the upcoming conference “The 1st International Electronic Conference on Land —Towards Land System Science”, to take place virtually on 17—19 May 2022.
Conference topics we intend to address are the philosophy and key (inter- and transdisciplinary) methodological approaches of land system sciences. We want to shed a light on advances in key research areas, such as land use and land use planning, modeling from ecosystem to landscape and global scales, scaling effects, impacts of global and climate change on land systems and their resilience, global trends, such as urbanization and biodiversity losses and integrative approaches connected with the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Aichi Targets and the Paris Agreement. Instruments, such as the European Landscape Convention, and their relevance for protecting and restoring cultural landscapes, the natural heritage and diversity of land systems are expected to be discussed. Other relevant governance instruments and governance mixes that translate land system science outputs into policies and conventions will be debated regarding their efficiency and success and regarding how to further develop them, for instance, in the light of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and its expected outcomes and impacts.
This meeting aims to bring together the LAND community in its widest sense to discuss these latest advances, with sessions on land system science advances and their societal relevance chaired by leading researchers from across the globe.
In the interests of safety, given the present COVID-19 situation, we have decided to bring the conference to a fully online format. The conference will proceed on the same dates with the same fantastic speakers.
Importantly, we aim to select a high number of oral presentations from early-stage researchers, from their submitted abstracts.

Prof. Dr. Christine Fürst is the Editor-in-Chief of Land. She is the professor for Sustainable Landscape Development, Martin-Luther University Halle, Germany. Her main research interests currently lie in integrative landscape modeling and impact assessment by means of a system of systems and in participatory decision processes in urban and regional spatial planning. Her regional research focus lies beyond Europe, in West Africa and Latin America. |

If you are registering several people under the same registration, please do not use the same email address for each person, but their individual university email addresses. Participation to the conference is considered final only once the registration fees have been paid. The number of participants is limited: once the number of paid registrations reaches the maximum number of participants, unpaid registrations will be cancelled.

The conference "IECL2022 – The 1st International Electronic Conference on Land -Towards Land System Science" will accept abstracts only.
The accepted abstracts will be available online on Sciforum.net during and after the conference.
Please note that abstract submission and conference registration are two separate processes.
To register for the conference, please follow this link.
To present your research at the event
- Create an account on Sciforum if you do not have one, then click on ‘New Submission’ on the upper-right corner of the window, or by clicking on ‘Submit Abstract’ at the top of this webpage.
- Indicate what thematic area is best suited for your research.
- Submit an abstract in English - the word limits are minimum 150 words and maximum 300 words.
- The deadline to submit your abstract is 15 March 2022. You will be notified by 31 March 2022 about the acceptance for poster presentation.
- Upon submission, you can write to tell if you wish to also be considered for oral presentation. Following assessment by the Chairs, you will be notified by 20 April 2022 in a separate email whether your contribution has been accepted for oral presentation.
- Please note that, in order to finalize the scientific program in due time, at least one registration by any of the authors, denoted as Covering Author, is required to cover the presentation and publication of any accepted abstract. Covering Author registration deadline is 11 April 2022. Your abstract will be withdrawn if your registration is not complete by this date.
The typical talk should be within 10 minutes. And there will be Q&A time after all presentations are done in one session.
All presentations must be sent to the conference secretariat in advance so that, in case you are encountering technical difficulties, we could share your slides to the audience.

Best Oral Presentation Awards Criteria
Presentations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Originality and novelty of the submitted file;
- Significance of content;
- Scientific soundness;
- Interest to the readers;
- English language and style.
Requirements for Best Oral Presentation Awards:
The presentation should contain the following information:
- Title (with authors and affiliations);
- Introduction, objectives, and aims;
- Methods;
- Results;
- Conclusion;
- References;
- Acknowledgements;
- Contact information;
- A live presentation within 20 minutes.
Evaluation
- Each Evaluation Committee member will assess each entry in terms of the criteria outlined above;
- Total scores for each presentation will be ranked, from highest to lowest;
- If two or more authors get the same score, further evaluation will be carried out;
All decisions made by the Evaluation Committee are final.
