Dr. Pete Hollings
NOHFC Chair in Mineral Exploration, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

S2. Mineral Systems and Ore Deposits: From Formation to Exploration

Dr. Hollings completed his Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan in 1998 where he investigated the geochemistry of the 2.7-3.0 Ga Uchi Subprovince from Red Lake to Pickle Lake. During a two-year NSERC funded postdoctoral fellowship at CODES Dr. Hollings participated in a multi-disciplinary research project investigating the genesis of giant copper-porphyry deposits in Chile. As a faculty member at Lakehead University since 2001, Dr. Hollings is continuing his research into the relationship between igneous petrogenesis and mineralisation in a variety of deposit types including porphyry, orogenic gold and Ni-Cu-PGE. He has published more than 170 peer-reviewed papers on these topics. Hollings is currently the NOHFC IRC Chair in Mineral Exploration and Director of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Mining and Exploration at Lakehead University.

S6. Emerging Frontiers in Mineral Science: Breakthrough Areas and Future Directions

David Avnir is a Professor (Em.) of Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he also obtained all his academic training, and where he has held the positions of Head of the School of Chemistry, Head of the Institute of Chemistry, and Head of the Graduate School of the Experimental Sciences. His current scientific activities include geochemistry, astrochemistry, materials science, chirality and symmetry in experiments and theory. He has co-authored 420 papers, which have been cited over 43,000 time, several of which have been cited over 1000 times. His current Hirsch citation h-index is 88. Amongst his awards is the Israel Chemical Society Distinction Prize (2011), Life-time Achievement Award of the International Sol-Gel Society (2013), Distinguished Scientist of The Chinese Academy of Sciences (2018), Gold Medal of the Israel Chemical Society (2024), and more.
