Dr. James C. Simeon is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA), Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, and a former Head of McLaughlin College, Director of the SPPA, and a former Acting Director and Deputy Director at the Centre for Refugee Studies (CRS), at York University, Toronto, Canada.

Elspeth Guild is Jean Monnet Professor ad personam at Queen Mary University of London as well as at the Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands. She is also a partner at the London law firm, Kingsley Napley She is also a visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges. Her interests and expertise lies primarily in the area of EU law, in particular EU Justice and Home Affairs (including immigration, asylum, border controls, criminal law and police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters). She also researches EU privacy and data protection law and the nexus with human rights. She is also co-editor of the European Journal of Migration and Law. She is co-editor of the book series Immigration and Asylum Law and Policy in Europe published by Martinus Nijhoff. Professor Guild provides regular advice to the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of Europe and other European and international organizations (such as the UNHCR) on free movement of persons, migration and asylum. Professor Guild is co-chair of the European Sub Committee, Immigration Law Practitioners Association, the UK legal profession’s voice on immigration and asylum matters.

Diego Acosta is a European and Migration Law Professor at the University of Bristol. He is the leading expert on migration and citizenship law in Latin America. His new project, funded by an award from the Open Society Foundations, maps and compares bilateral and multilateral free movement of people regimes globally.

Jacopo Giorgi heads the Asylum and Migration Unit at the Division of International Protection of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Prior to his current assignment, he coordinated courses in protection in mixed movement situations and protection of internally displaced persons at the Global Learning and Development Center of UNHCR. Jacopo Giorgi has worked both in the NGO sector and with International Organisations, focusing on asylum procedures, IDP responses as well as protection of civilians in armed conflict, both at the HQ level and in field operations, including in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Philippines, Italy, Sudan and, more recently, Iran. He holds a Master Degree in Human Rights and a Diploma in European Legal Studies obtained at the University of Essex and at the University of Lancaster, respectively.

Vassiliy Yuzhanin is the Head of the International Migration Law Unit. He has over 22 years of experience in migration, specializing on the International Migration Law, with a particular focus on human rights law, international labour law and migrants’ rights, transnational criminal law, business and migrants’ rights, immigration law, border and other areas. Vassiliy has been working nationally and regionally providing expert support and implementing projects on the above-mentioned thematic areas on several positions in IOM in Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Regional Office for South-East, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and IOM Headquarters. He took part in, led or contributed to many initiatives supporting governments in migration policy and legislation development. Vassiliy holds a degree in pedagogics and two law degrees, one on commercial law from the Higher Law School “Adilet” in Kazakhstan and LLM on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK.

Younous Arbaoui is Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). His current research project addresses the impact of global migration law on migration policies in North Africa and the European Union. He is editor in chief of the journal Revue Hijra, Chairman of Clinique Juridique Hijra Maroc and Coordinator of the Migration law Clinic Amsterdam.
