Integrating Machine Learning for Process Control in Object Detection and Sampling within the Defense Sector

Abstract:

Context: Object detection and sampling projects in the defense sector employ modern technologies to detect and identify various objects, including vehicles, weapons, and personnel. These initiatives are integral to enhancing surveillance, reconnaissance, force protection, border security, and asset protection measures. By integrating advanced sensors, cameras, artificial intelligence, and data analytics, these projects provide real-time insights and actionable intelligence to defense and security personnel, thus improving situational awareness and operational effectiveness in diverse environments.

Objective: The objectives of the proposed system are to differentiate between our soldiers and enemy soldiers in a close combat situation by implementing a sensor or chipset in our soldiers headset/war helmet; to detect the enemy soldiers and shoot them down only via a drone equipped with weapons; to prevent casualties of our soldiers or friendly persons/objects; and to prevent mass destruction by harming only the needed area/enemy.

Materials and Methods: Utilization of YOLOv5 Model for object detection; implementation of Centroid Tracking for object tracking; integration of OpenCV and Numpy for image processing and analysis; and development of a Tracker Class for efficient object tracking.

Results and Performance Metrics: The object detection and sampling system achieved significant performance metrics, including high detection accuracy, rapid processing speed, and robust operation in varied environmental conditions. The system demonstrated a detection accuracy of [ 95%+], with an average processing speed of [less than 0.5 second]. Furthermore, it exhibited resilience in challenging environments such as low-light conditions, adverse weather, and cluttered backgrounds. Comparison with Current Systems: In comparison with existing object detection and tracking systems utilized in the defense sector, our system showcases notable advancements and improvements. Detection range: Depends upon the camera vision and quality (as far as the camera can see). Accuracy: Depends upon the camera stability (More than 95%). Differentiation: By implementing a sensor or chipset in the helmet of our soldier, it can classify between our soldiers and enemy soldiers, and will also be able to only shoot down the enemy soldiers in a close combat situation via drone technology (it will require a high level of coding and equipment).
