Welcome from the Chair

17- 18 November 2020, VIRTUAL, Welcome from the Conference Chair

Nitric oxide (NO), a gaseous free radical, is one of the ten smallest molecules found in nature. Although toxic, it is recognized to be a gasotransmitter that plays multiple roles in normal physiology. NO regulates vascular relaxation, controls inflammation, and suppresses expression of pro-inflammatory mediators in mast cells, macrophages, vascular smooth muscles, affects metabolism, insulin resistance, and has a role in type-2 diabetes.

In this webinar, over a 2-day period, we will hear updates from some of the experts in this interesting, still evolving, and at time controversial field.

In 1992, the journal Science referred to NO as the “Molecule of the Year”. The important role that NO plays in human biology was recognized in 1998 when the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine was awarded to Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro, and Ferid Murad for establishing NO as a messenger molecule. The past 30 years have been very fruitful in deciphering the role of NO in human physiology, with many questions still on the horizon.

We are pleased to sponsor this 2-day webinar on the various aspects of NO physiology, pharmacology, and therapeutic applications and would like to welcome all the participants.

This Webinar relates to the Special Issue Nitric Oxide: Physiology, Pharmacology, and Therapeutic Applications. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute with a manuscript to the special issue with a special discount of 20%.

Webinar Content

On Tuesday and Wednesday, 17/18 November 2020, MDPI and IJMS organized the first virtual conference on IJMS, entitled: “Nitric Oxide: Physiology, Pharmacology, and Therapeutic Applications"

The introduction was held on both days by the chair of the webinar, Dr. Khosrow Kashfi. Dr. Khosrow Kashfi is an Associate Medical Professor of Pharmacology at the City University of New York School of Medicine, a 7-year BS-MD program that is focused on producing broadly-educated, highly-skilled medical practitioners to provide quality health services to communities historically underserved by primary care practitioners.

The webinar was offered via Zoom and required registration to attend. The full recording can be found here on Sciforum website. In order to stay updated on the next webinars on IJMS, be sure to sign up for our newsletter by clicking on “Subscribe” at the top of the page.
