2nd Buildings Webinar

Innovation in Structural Analysis and Dynamics for Constructions

The continuous development of materials, design concepts, and tools for numerical analysis offers new challenges and scenarios to the research community and designers. The use of materials, innovative or not, and load-bearing components that are particularly sensitive to environmental conditions or severe operational conditions can require dedicated methods and performance indicators for their structural verification. However, especially in recent years, the building and infrastructure fields have been able to take advantage of increasing innovation that takes the form of novel analysis techniques and tools.

In this context, this Webinar aims at presenting some major topics and outcomes of the ongoing Special Issue “Innovation in Structural Analysis and Dynamics for Constructions”, guest edited by present researchers.

Webinar Secretariat:

Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Trieste, Italy

Chiara is Senior Assistant Professor at University of Trieste, Department of Engineering and Architecture, Italy, where she is instructor for the course of 'Structural Analysis'. PhD degree in 2012, since 2009 she is involved in international research projects and networks (JRC-ERNCIP, NATO-SPS, EU-COST, etc.). Editorial Board member for several ISI journals and Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Structural Glass and Advanced Materials Research (SGAMR). Top Scientist for research impact in 2019 and 2020 (Stanford standardized citation indicators), and in the list of Top Italian Scientis (TIS) since 2021 (Engineering > Civil).

Invited Speakers

University of Zagreb, Croatia

Mislav Stepinac is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb. He finished his Ph.D. thesis in the field of timber engineering but now he is more oriented to masonry structures. He has a huge experience in rapid post-earthquake assessment of damaged buildings. His main research activities are oriented to assessment and strengthening of existing structures, heritage buildings and seismic behaviour of timber and masonry buildings. He is the author of numerous scientific papers. He is an active member of several standardization committees and is actively participating in COST Actions. At the moment he is a principal investigator of 2 big scientific projects in the field of structural assessment.

University of Cagliari, Italy

Flavio Stochino is Assistant Professor of Theory and Design of Structures at University of Cagliari (Italy), Department of Civil Environmental Engineering and Architecture. He obtained the Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at University of Cagliari in 2013. Then he moved to University of Sassari (Italy) working on computational mechanics problems as Post Doc researcher till 2016. In that year he became Dresden Junior Fellow at TU Dresden (Germany) where he worked on some advanced computational techniques for fracture mechanics. In 2017 he won the PhD ITalents call, funded by CRUI and Confindustria. After this result he was hired as research and development manager by Secured Solutions srl, a spin-off of the University of Cagliari. In 2019 he has become Assistant Professor of Theory and Design of Structures at University of Cagliari (Italy). His scientific research deals with extreme loads on R.C. structures. In particular he is interested in blast/impulsive loading and fire design of R.C. structures. He worked also on many computational mechanics problems and in the last years he has been interested in sustainable materials and sustainable retrofitting for existing buildings.
