Chair
GECAD-Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development, Polytechnic of Porto, Porto, Portugal
Zita Vale is Full Professor at the School of Engineering (ISEP) of the Polytechnic of Porto (IPP). Her main interests regard the application of Artificial Intelligence Techniques to Power systems, including Knowledge based systems, Multi-agent systems, Neural Networks, Meta-heuristics, Optimization, Machine Learning, and Knowledge Discovery Techniques. She has been involved in more than 60 R&D projects with external funding. She published over 900 works, including more than 200 papers in international scientific journals. She has been contributing for renowned international conferences as member of the Program Committee, Program Chair, reviewer, and organizing special and panel sessions. She has also been keynote speaker in several conferences and guest editor and/or member of editorial board of scientific international journals. She contributes to several scientific and technical committees and working groups. Currently, she is President of ISAP – Intelligent Systems Applications to Power Systems and chairs the Working Group on Intelligent Data Mining and Analysis and the Task Force on Open Datasets of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES).
Invited Speakers
INESC-ID, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico-IST, Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal
He graduated as Electrical Engineer from the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, ISEP) in 2002 (Bachelor) and in 2005 (Licenciate). In December of 2010 he carried out his MSc thesis at ISEP, about "Energy Resources Management in Smart Grids". In April of 2012 he finished his PhD concerning "Virtual Power Players action in electricity Markets". His research interests address several research topics namely: • Virtual power players (VPP): Management structure; Coalitions with generation units using intelligent negotiation and game theory algorithms; Bilateral negotiation between VPPs; Participation in EM; Bilateral negotiation based on LMPs values; •Energy resources management using deterministic and heuristics (Genetic algorithms, Several approaches of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Simulated Annealing (SA), etc) approaches considering the contracts between VPPs and aggregated players; Multi-objective approach considering the cost, GEE emissions, social welfare and the load diagram stability, using the Pareto front and fuzzy data; • Simulation of electricity markets in multi-agent systems, considering the inclusion of VPPs, the complex offers rules, the balancing, day-ahead and the ancillary services markets.
Department of Mathematics and Computation, University of Burgos, Burgos, Spain
Roberto Casado earned a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Salamanca in 2019 (with an extraordinary performance PhD award). He received a degree in Mathematics from the University of Salamanca and a Master's degree in Big Data & Visual Analytics from the International University of La Rioja. He has worked for Viewnext as a data scientist and Powercenter consultant for important clients in the pharmaceutical and public administration sectors. Since 2017, he has worked in different public and private research centers, including the BISITE research group of the University of Salamanca. Nowadays, he is a lecturer at the University of Burgos as part as of the Department of Mathematics and Computation. His research interest are Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, advanced mathematical models for non-linear control, as well as blockchain; a technology in which he has obtained an official certification. He has published more than 50 research papers in international journals, books and conferences. He has also participated in more than 25 research projects. Moreover, he is an associate editor of the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society and a member of the scientific committee at several conferences of international prestige, including PAAMS, PACBB or DCAI. He also works as reviewer at many others.
