After a PhD in Molecular Biology at Cardiff University, Dr Martin began a Post-doctoral career at the then University of Wales College of Medicine (now Cardiff University), investigating the role of Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) on endothelia. This led to the opportunity to examine HGF and its antagonist NK4 in cancer. She has since been involved in researching the role of Tight Junctions in cancer (during metastasis) and in endothelia (during angiogenesis). Her research interests include investigating how Tight Junctions can be modulated to control cancer cell dissociation and invasion, together with a continued interest in angiogenic factors and their role in metastasis. She is has a special interest in the mechanisms whereby HGF can control tight junction assembly and function in both cancer and endothelia. Her work has also involved the examination of HGF and how this cytokine influences stem cells markers in prostate cancer. Other research interests include the interaction of cancer cells in cell-adhesion and cell-signalling and in how the cell adhesion molecule VE-cadherin is involved in angiogenesis. Dr Martin is currently Senior Lecturer in Cell and Tumour Biology at the Cardiff University School of Medicine and is also the Director of Postgraduate Research.

2. Molecular Mechanisms in Cellular Processes
This conference session will explore the molecular mechanisms involved in various cellular processes. It encompasses multiple research fields, including cell signaling, gene regulation, protein synthesis as well as degradation, cell cycle control, genome function and maintenance, and cellular metabolism as well as organelles. By delving into these mechanisms, we aim to explore the intricate workings of cellular processes and their implications for health and disease.
