Welcome from the Chair
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the MDPI journal Toxics (ISSN: 2305-6304; Impact Factor: 3.9) and its Scientific Committee, I am pleased to invite you to participate in the 2nd International Online Conference on Toxics. This meeting will be held online from 8th-10th September 2025.
The aim of this platform is to bring together students, researchers, and scientists from around the world to present their work and exchange ideas on the exposure, effects, and risks regarding chemicals and materials in terms of humans and the natural environment, as well as on the development of new approaches to assess and/or manage the toxicological and ecotoxicological risks of chemicals and materials. The topics are organized into six sessions, corresponding to the following journal sections:
1. Exposure Pathways – Air and Water Contamination
2. Molecular Stressors – Nanoparticles, Mixtures, and Persistent Pollutants
3. Cutting-Edge Approaches in Pharmacology and Toxicology
4. Pesticides, Pollutants, and Health Risk
5. Exploring Non-Model Species for Ecotoxicology
6. Bridging Science and Policy – New and Upcoming Regulations
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the conference committee and, if accepted, authors can choose to submit proceedings papers or posters, potentially alongside a PowerPoint and/or video presentation of their work. All accepted abstracts will be published as one dedicated volume in the Proceedings journal (ISSN: 2504-3900).
The 2nd International Online Conference on Toxics offers you the opportunity to participate in this international, scholarly conference without having the concern or expenditure of travel fees. We would like to invite you to “attend” this conference by presenting your latest work. Abstracts (in English) should be submitted online before 9th May 2025.
Kind regards,

Registration
The registration for IOCTO 2025 will be free of charge! The registration includes attendance to all conference sessions.
If you are registering several people under the same registration, please do not use the same email address for each person, but their individual university email addresses. Thank you for your understanding.
Please note that the submission and registration are two separate parts. Only scholars who registered can receive a link to access the conference live streaming. The deadline for registration is 5th September 2025.

It is the authors' responsibility to identify and declare any personal circumstances or interests that may be perceived as inappropriately influencing the representation or interpretation of clinical research. If there is no conflict, please state "The authors declare no conflicts of interest." This should be conveyed in a separate "Conflict of Interest" statement preceding the "Acknowledgments" and "References" sections at the end of the manuscript. Any financial support for the study must be fully disclosed in the "Acknowledgments" section.
MDPI, the publisher of the Sciforum.net platform, is an open access publisher. We believe authors should retain the copyright to their scholarly works. Hence, by submitting an abstract to this conference, you retain the copyright to the work, but you grant MDPI the non-exclusive right to publish this abstract online on the Sciforum.net platform. This means you can easily submit your full paper (with the abstract) to any scientific journal at a later stage and transfer the copyright to its publisher if required.
Publication Opportunity
1. Toxics Journal Publication
Participants in this conference are cordially invited to contribute a full manuscript to a Special Issue published in Toxics (ISSN: 2305-6304, Impact Factor 3.9), with a 10% discount on the publication fee. All submitted papers will undergo MDPI’s standard peer-review procedure. The abstracts should be cited and noted on the first page of the paper.
Please note if you have IOAP/association discounts, conference discounts will be combined with IOAP/association discounts. Conference discounts cannot be combined with reviewer vouchers.
2. Proceeding Paper Publication
All accepted abstracts will be published in the conference report of IOCTO 2025 in Environmental Sciences Proceedings (ISSN: 2673-4931); if you wish to publish an extended proceeding paper (3-6 pages), please submit it to the same journal after the conference.
Authors are asked to disclose that it is a proceeding paper of the IOCTO 2025 conference paper in their cover letter.
Proceedings submission deadline: 25th October 2025

5. Exploring Non-Model Species for Ecotoxicology
Non-model species provide an expanded range of application opportunities, from classical toxicological characterization to more ecologically relevant approaches. Standardized toxicity tests with commonly cultured species generally have high reproducibility and acceptance. However, questions remain about their ecological relevance. To address this gap, there has been an increase in the use of field-collected local plants, invertebrates and vertebrates, for either single species bench scale tests, multispecies micro/mesocosms and in situ (field) experiments. Yet, standardized test species used in global and regional chemical management programs are limited to relatively few taxa that are easy to culture in the lab and of small sizes. Recent advances in high throughput screening applications to guild-related traits and transposing to ecosystem functions make non model species good alternatives for assessing toxic and endocrine effects in multiple types of experiments. With regard to invertebrate species, they are still not subject to animal experimentation ethical constrains, and thus they may be used as surrogate vertebrate models in some circumstances. However, there is a need to implement more endpoints in non model invertebrate species and to develop additional standardized ecotoxicological studies with field species and in situ field bioassays so that the results are reliable and repeatable. This Conference encourages presentations with standardized and unstandardized testing lab and indigenous species in bench scale or meso/microcosms and in situ assays. We invite presentations comparing lab and field studies, studying the variability in response in field populations, addressing impacts across several levels of biological organization (molecular, life-history, demographic, behavioral endpoints, community structure and/ ecosystem functions) and studies focusing on a mechanistic understanding of toxic and endocrine effects and/or on risk assessment of chemical pollutants alone or interacting with other stressors.
