Prof. Dr. Arnaud Ferrari

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University, Sweden;
Arnaud Ferrari received a PhD from the Université Joseph Fourier (Grenoble, France) in April 1999. His PhD thesis focused on high-energy physics simulations and detector development for the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). From 1999 to 2008, Arnaud worked on the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) project, first at CERN (Geneva, Switzerland) and then after May 2001 at Uppsala University, with research interests spanning from high-energy physics to beam dynamics simulation studies and beam instrumentation development. Since 2009, he has been working on the ATLAS project at Uppsala University, where his main research interests are searching for new physics beyond the Higgs sector of the Standard Model, as well as Higgs boson pair production.

Webinar Content

An MDPI webinar on "Recent Advances in Accelerator and Particle Physics" took place on May 6th, based on some selected articles submitted to the Symmetry Special Issue with the same title. The first talk discussed the use of Higgs bosons (or rather pairs thereof) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to probe the shape of the Higgs potential (and thereby the electroweak vacuum stability) in the Standard Model and to search for new resonance states. In the second talk, top quarks studies at the LHC were reported, both for precision measurements of Standard Model predictions and as a window to new physics. Accelerators are a central tool in experimental particle physics, and an illustration of some recent advances in that research field was presented in the third talk of the webinar, namely results and prospects of the AWAKE experiment, which has an extensive program to demonstrate plasma wakefield-based acceleration of electron beams over long distances, as a first step towards new experimental facilities for particle physics.
