This study examines the intricate relationship between gut microbiota, sports nutrition, and training methodologies in judoka, highlighting how dietary interventions impact strength, endurance, and recovery. Given the sport’s intense physical demands, maintaining optimal gut health is crucial for energy efficiency, metabolic stability, and immune resilience, all of which contribute to competitive performance.
A systematic review was conducted, analyzing peer-reviewed studies on microbiota composition, dietary strategies, and athletic performance. Key nutritional interventions include probiotic and prebiotic supplementation, macronutrient optimization, hydration management, and polyphenol intake. Research suggests that probiotics enhance nutrient absorption and digestion, supporting weight regulation, which is vital for judoka competing in weight-class divisions. Additionally, fiber- and polyphenol-rich diets promote microbial diversity, contributing to anti-inflammatory effects and oxidative stress reduction, which aid post-training recovery.
Our findings indicate that high-intensity training and plyometric exercises enhance anaerobic power, while microbiota composition influences energy utilization, improving explosive movements, grip strength, and stamina. A balanced intake of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates supports anaerobic and aerobic energy systems, ensuring effective performance during judo techniques like throws and holds. Moreover, electrolyte balance and hydration strategies play a critical role in maintaining gut microbiota homeostasis, reducing fatigue and enhancing training adaptation.
This research underscores the importance of individualized nutritional approaches tailored to judoka’s training intensity and competitive goals. Future studies should explore personalized microbiota-based dietary plans to optimize recovery, endurance, and overall metabolic function. By strategically enhancing gut microbiota health, judoka can gain a physiological edge, improving athletic resilience and performance longevity through precise dietary modifications. Understanding microbiota’s role in sports nutrition offers valuable insights for combat athletes aiming for peak efficiency in high-stakes competition.
