Dear Colleagues of the 1st International e-conference on Materials,
Thank you very much for your participation at this successful first edition of the e-conference.
For your convenience all papers and presentations are now available as zip download.
Welcome from the Chair of the 1st International Electronic Conference on Materials
I am pleased to welcome you to the 1st International Electronic Conference on Materials (ECM).
This first edition will cover “Functional Materials and Interfaces”, a field which is currently a high priority among scholars. In addition a polymers has been added to the conference topics. The conference will comprise the following sections:
- Functional Materials and Interfaces in Food (Section A)
- Functional Materials and Interfaces for Energy and Sustainable Development (Section B)
- Functional Materials and Interfaces for Biomedical Applications (Section C)
- Polymers (collected papers from the ECP; Section D)
All participants will have the chance to exchange their knowledge and latest research with other experts from the community, bringing a rich contribution to this important field. Researchers from both theoretical and applied fields will convene to discuss their latest investigations.
By using sciforum.net, a platform providing the technology to host digital conferences, we address many of the difficulties that come with participating in a physical conference: ECM offers you the opportunity to participate at this international, scholarly conference without having the concern or expenditure of travel. In addition, participation is free of charge—both for authors and attendees. Furthermore, the e-conference offers you a rapid and direct exchange with the scientific community, and allows you to receive fast, high quality feedback on your latest work. The 1st International Electronic Conference on Materials is sponsored by the open access journal Materials (2012 Impact Factor: 2.247; http://www.mdpi.com/journal/materials). Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the conference, and selected papers will be considered for publication in Materials. Papers related to functional biomaterials can also be submitted to the Journal of Functional Biomaterials (http://www.mdpi.com/journal/jfb).
I hope you will help make this first edition a full success and at the same time, enjoy participating.
I am looking forward to welcoming you from 26 May to 10 June 2014 and hope you share our enthusiasm.
Yours sincerely,Prof. Dr. Maryam Tabrizian
Chair of the 1st International Electronic Conference on Materials
Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Materials
Professor, Biomedical Engineering
Professor, Faculty of Dentistry
Guggenheim Fellow in Biomedical Sciences
Biomedical Engineering Department
Maryam Tabrizian is professor at the Biomedical Engineering Department and Faculty of Dentistry, and FRSQ-Chercheure nationale awardees. She became Guggenheim Fellow in Biomedical Sciences (2010) and Fellow of the Biomaterials Science & Engineering (FBSE) in 2011, for her contribution to the field of Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Sciences. She received her PhD degree in Physical Sciences, with a multidisciplinary background including physics, chemistry and biology, from Université Pierre et Marie Curie-École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie de Paris in 1990. She founded and was the director of the Centre for Biorecognition and Biosensors (CBB) for 10 years from 2001. She has an established expertise in design of biointerfaces, to promote cell-substrate or protein-substrate interactions for biosensing, and is internationally known for her work on functional and bioactive biointerfaces. Her research focus is on the development of engineered surfaces through physical, chemical and biological modifications, as well as via the use of advanced micro/nanofabrication technologies to create biocompatible and biofunctional materials for application in nanomedicine and regenerative medicine She is the author of more than 160 peer-reviewed papers in her field, over 75 invited lectures, many book chapters, patents, and 270 conference communications. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Materials, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Biological Engineering (JBI), and the International Journal of Biomaterials Research and Engineering (IJBRE).
