The venue for ISFMS2025 will be the Kyoto Institute, Library and Archives (Rekisaikan). This facility was established as an extension of the Kyoto Prefectural General Archives, which has been dedicated to the comprehensive collection, preservation, and public access of materials related to Kyoto for over 50 years. Rekisaikan was created to further enhance its role by incorporating research support, learning opportunities, and cultural exchange functions related to Kyoto’s history and culture. Its modern yet serene design provides an ideal environment for research and discussion, ensuring a comfortable and productive experience for all participants of the conference.
Collaboration and Accessibility Between Rekisaikan and Inamori Hall
Rekisaikan is closely connected with Inamori Hall, located just across the road. The two facilities are within a very short walking distance of each other, ensuring optimal convenience for attendees. Inamori Hall was established by Kyoto Prefecture as a hub for interdisciplinary education, and it plays a vital role in fostering academic collaboration.
Notably, the Inamori Exhibition Room, located within Inamori Hall, highlights the philosophy and contributions of Kazuo Inamori. This exhibition provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the social and ethical significance of scientific research. The entire program of ISFMS2025 will be hosted across both Rekisaikan and Inamori Hall. Their proximity greatly reduces transit time between sessions, enabling a seamless and efficient conference experience.
Access and Surroundings
Rekisaikan and Inamori Hall are located in the northeastern part of Kyoto City, in Sakyo Ward, and are conveniently situated just a 6-minute walk from Exit 1 of Kitayama Station on the Kyoto City Subway Karasuma Line.
The area surrounding the venue is rich in academic and cultural resources, including Kyoto Prefectural University’s Shimogamo Campus, Kyoto Prefectural Medical University, and the Kyoto Botanical Garden. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Shimogamo Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its surrounding Tadasu no Mori (Tadasu Forest). These attractions provide a refreshing natural and historical atmosphere, offering participants a chance to experience the cultural essence of Japan during their visit. By Plane
Kyoto (Japan) is easily accessible by air through Kansai International Airport (KIX).
Kansai International Airport (KIX) serves the western area of Japan, housing the tourist-magnet city of Kyoto and the urban powerhouse of Osaka, along with the deeply spiritual ground of surrounding prefectures Nara and Wakayama
In 2020, Kansai was ranked the tenth-best airport in the world by Skytrax and received its awards for Best Airport Staff in Asia, World's Best Airport Staff, and World's Best Airport for Baggage Delivery.
Upon arriving at Kansai International Airport, attendees can easily access Inamori Hall, Liberal Arts and Science Building through the following transport options.
By Train
Step 1: From Kansai Airport Station, take the JR HARUKA limited express train to Kyoto Station.
The Haruka runs approximately every 30 minutes (about two trains per hour), so you will not need to wait long for the next departure.
Step 2: At Kyoto Station, transfer to the Subway Karasuma Line (bound for Kokusaikaikan). Get off at Kitayama Station and take Exit 1.
Follow the signs for “Subway Karasuma Line” after exiting the JR Central Gate; the route to the subway is clearly marked.
Step 3: From Kitayama Station, it is about a 10-minute walk to Inamori Hall (Liberal Arts and Science Building).
By Bus
Step 1:
From Terminal 1: Take Airport Shuttle Bus Number 8 to Kyoto Station (Hachijo–guchi).
From Terminal 2: Take Airport Shuttle Bus Number 2 to Kyoto Station (Hachijo–guchi).
Step 2:
Option A— Walk 10 minutes to Kyoto Station's City Bus Station (Bus Platform 2). Take City Bus No. 4 (bound for Nishigamo Shako, via Shijo Kawaramachi and Kamigamo Jinja Shrine) and alight at Kitanonocho. Finally, walk 7 minutes to Inamori Hall, Liberal Arts and Science Building.
Option B— From Kyoto Station (Hachijo-guchi), take a taxi to Inamori Hall. The ride takes about 22 minutes and costs approximately 1,800 JPY.
By Taxi
Taxis are readily available outside the airport terminals, providing a comfortable and convenient way to reach your accommodation and the conference venue.
The ride will take about 1 hour 35 minutes depending on the traffic. The fare travelling to Inamori Hall, Liberal Arts and Science Building from Kansai airport is quite expensive, around JPY 40,000.

1) A photocopy of your passport
2) The completed visa application template or a list of the specific information required as per the template
5. Pay the Visa Support Document Fee: A fee of JPY 15,000 is required for the preparation of visa support documents. This fee is non-refundable, even if your visa application is not approved. Please register here.
The deadline for requesting visa support documents is 15 July 2025. Failure to provide the required information or to meet the deadline may result in delays or complications with your visa application process.
