S4. Urban Water, Treatment Technologies, Systems Efficiency and Smart Water Grids
Recently, we have observed an increasing interest in the management of water systems, especially in the urban environment. Developing advanced technologies to remove emerging and high-priority pollutants from water or wastewater and improving the efficiency of such treatments are important considerations when it comes to the research and design of water and wastewater treatment plants.
The development of low-cost sensors and data transmission, the analysis of the resulting large set of measurements, the increasing energy costs of pumping systems, the energy harvesting related to pressure management, the need for performance indices to evaluate and compare system reliability and efficiency, low-impact development involving infiltration ponds and rain gardens, and the transition from an intermittent to a continuous water supply are a selection of the interesting topics that require particular attention when investigating water systems in the urban environment.
This session will explore these and other topics associated with urban water systems.
