Use of Machine Learning to Predict the Glycemic Status of Patients with Diabetes

In this work, a machine learning methodology is used to predict the progress of the glycemic values of six patients with diabetes. Eight different algorithms are compared i.e. ANN, PNN, Polynomial Regression, Gradient Boosted Trees Regression, Random Forest Regression, Simple Regression Tree, Tree Ensemble Regression, Linear Regression. The algorithms are classified based on the ability to minimize four statistical errors, namely: Mean Absolute Error, Mean Squared Error, Root Mean Squared Error, Mean Signed Difference. Following the analysis, an ordering of the algorithms by predictive efficiency is proposed. Data are collected within the “Smart District 4.0 Project” with the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development.

Modeling and Visualization of clinical texts to enhance meaningful and user friendly information retrieval

Access to health data collections such as clinical notes, discharge summaries or medical charts in Electronic Health Records have increased in the last few years due to increase use of electronic health records that provide instant access to patients’ clinical information. The volume and the unstructured nature of these datasets present great challenges in analyses and subsequent applications to healthcare. The growing volume of clinical data generated and stored in electronic health records creates challenges for physicians when reviewing patients records with the aim of understanding individual patients’ health histories. Electronic healthcare records contain large volumes of unstructured data which requires one to read through to get the required information. This is a challenging task due to lack of suitable techniques to quicly extract needed information. Information processing tools in clinical domain that provide support to users in seeking needed information are lacking. The use of data visualizations have been introduced in an attempt to solve this problem; however, no single approach has been widely adopted. In this paper we propose a unique approach for modelling clinical notes using semantics of various units of a clinical text document to aid doctors in reviewing electronic clinical notes. This is achieved by applying supervised machine learning technique to identify and present semantically similar information together, facilitating the identification of relevant information to users.

The promising shadow of nanohybrid liposomal Cerasomes towards the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus

Nanocontainers are used globally in diverse fields to encapsulate the cargoes that can potentially overcome various problems associated to different drug delivery systems like stability, solubility, improvement in functional activities, homogeneity and protection from biological and chemical destructions. Following up this approach in the field of biomedicine is considered to be of special importance as it can easily overcome the issues related to biocompatibility, bioavailability, toxicity profile and the therapeutic side effects. Lipid based delivery systems have evolved as a newer approach in the field of drug delivery. Advancement, development and design modification of the lipid based drug delivery systems have given rise to the development of hybrid structures containing both inorganic and organic parts called cerasomes. Cerasomes are basically the modified form of liposomes that are found to overcome limitations related to lipid nanoparticles. However, these cerasomes are also found to be effective in the treatment of diabetes mellitus that is considered to be a metabolic disorder affecting a huge population worldwide since the last few decades. Development of cerasomes for the treatment of diabetes have provided a new window to the researchers to overcome different problems connected to the present therapies. This article provides a thorough assessment of hybrid liposomal cerasome literature and how it can be effectively employed in the treatment of diabetes.

Research on the influence of Taijiquan on College Students' inhibition control based on fNIRS Technology
Published: 18 February 2022 by MDPI in The 2nd International Electronic Conference on Healthcare session Sport Performance

Objective: inhibition control is a process in which people actively overcome irrelevant factors and dominant reactions. Some Chinese college students have the problem of poor self-control. Physical exercise can effectively improve people's inhibition control function. Taijiquan originated in China and is popular in the world. It combines dynamic and static, has a degree of relaxation, combines with action, consciousness and breathing, focuses on action, actively controls and eliminates distractions, so as to achieve the effect of fitness and health. In view of the rare research on the inhibitory control effect and brain mechanism of Taijiquan, this study used near infrared brain imaging (fNIRS) technology to study the effect and mechanism of 20 week Taijiquan exercise intervention on inhibitory control of college students. This study hypothesized that Taijiquan can improve the inhibitory control function of college students, and the improvement benefit is related to the neural activation of prefrontal cortex.
Methods: 60 college students, aged 21.02 ± 2.11, were selected as experimental subjects, 30 in Taijiquan intervention group and 30 in control group. Independent variable 1 is the experimental conditions, including intervention group and control group; Independent variable 2 is the test order, including pre-test and post test. Dependent variables were Stroop task response time and fNIRS oxygenated hemoglobin changes with consistent and inconsistent conditions. The intervention group exercised intensively three times a week for 15 weeks, 45 minutes each time. The control group did not change according to the original lifestyle. Test the subject Stroop effect. When the subject reacts to the color of Chinese characters but ignores the meaning of Chinese characters, the consistency condition is that the color of Chinese characters is consistent with the meaning, and the inconsistency condition is that the color of Chinese characters is inconsistent with the meaning. Under inconsistent conditions, the judgment speed of subjects decreased and the error rate increased. Fnris technology used nirport system to monitor the changes of prefrontal oxygenated hemoglobin during Stroop task test. FNIRS data analysis: considering the noise caused by head movement and breathing, exclude the components with frequency > 0.1Hz and frequency < 0.01Hz, record the changes of oxygenated hemoglobin when the subjects perform consistent and inconsistent tasks, analyze the oxygenated hemoglobin signal by SPSS statistics, and compare the oxygenated hemoglobin with the original by paired t-test β The significant difference channels were screened out by data analysis.
Results: in Stroop consistent task, the concentration of oxygenated hemoglobin in nine channels in Taijiquan intervention group was significantly higher than that in control group, and there was significant difference between pre-test and post-test, t = 3.28, P = 0.037; The pre-test reaction time was 673.41 ± 168.09, which was greater than the post test reaction time 659.34 ± 151.06; There was no significant difference between pre-test and post test in the control group, t = 1.048, P = 0.339. In Stroop inconsistent task, the concentration of CH4 oxygenated hemoglobin in the intervention group increased, t = 3.509, P = 0.004, corresponding to the left dorsolateral prefrontal lobe. There was significant difference between pre-test and post-test in the intervention group, t = 3.78, P = 0.032; The pre-test reaction time was 814.68 ± 167.09, which was greater than the post test reaction time 768.32 ± 118.72; There was no significant difference between pre-test and post test in the control group, t = 0.906, P = 0.513.
Conclusion: the Stroop task behavior of college students has been significantly improved after 15 weeks of Taijiquan exercise, which has significantly enhanced the neural activation level of five brain regions under different conditions. The research results provide new thinking and scientific basis for Taijiquan to improve the inhibitory control function of college students.

COVID-19 AND MUCORMYCOSIS: THE ROLE OF HYPERGLYCEMIA IN VIRAL AND FUNGAL COINFECTION

A fungal infection that is difficult to diagnose and treat, mucormycosis gained prominence with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic as the infection with the new coronavirus predisposes patients to a greater risk of developing opportunistic infections, such as that caused by the “black fungus”. In order to identify the physiological changes and risk factors related to SARS-CoV-2 infection that favor the development of mucormycosis, an integrative review was carried out based on the PICO strategy in which searches in December 2021 in the Virtual Library in Health, on the PubMed portal and on the Web of Science, using the Mesh terms: COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Mucormycosis together with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. Full-text articles were included, available in journals/periodicals, published in Portuguese, English and Spanish from December 2019 to 2021 that addressed the metabolic changes caused by COVID-19 related to involvement by mucormycosis and excluded studies of review, editorials and duplicates. With the application of filters and exclusion of duplicates, 140 and 151 studies were selected by title and abstract, 113 convergent and 41 divergent; and, with the reading in full, 9 studies remained to compose the review. The results indicated a greater number of publications from India and a predominance of male and diabetic patients with elevated inflammatory markers. The results indicated a greater number of publications from India and a predominance of male and diabetic patients with elevated inflammatory markers. The higher prevalence of diabetics and hyperglycemia are in line with the hypotheses raised by other literature, given the impacts resulting from COVID-19 on glycemic control and the risks to the body from Diabetes. Thus, post-Sars-CoV-2 hyperglycemia may be a risk factor for the development of mucormycosis.

Published: 18 February 2022 by MDPI in The 2nd International Electronic Conference on Healthcare session Student Session

The outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a catastrophe in the modern world. This virus is readily mutated into new variants and is continuing to infect countless people. With significant efforts from the medicine and scientific communities, vaccines have been invented and millions of people have been administered by the same. Despite the vaccines, there are still many who continue to get infected. The aftermath of the viral infection is noticeable in the human body. Vital organs like lungs, heart, kidney, brain, etc. show signs of damage within people who have already recovered from COVID-19. These damages can be termed as long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2. People with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions were marked to be higher risk individuals for COVID-19. Although, the disease is primarily a respiratory tract infection, the previously healthy patients had shown signs of cardiovascular diseases and myocardial damage. The patients continue to live with this and it became an after-effect of COVID-19 disease.

Natural products and herbal medicine has been the source of cure of various alignments over the years. Scriptures of traditional medicines and practices in the folklore medicines have put forward countless medicinally important herbs. Various natural products can be identified as cardiovascular friendly and they can be used when it comes to healing the cardiovascular system from the damage caused by COVID-19. The efficacy of herbal medicines can be increased greatly if they can be administered in the form of targeted drug delivery. One such innovative method is by loading natural products in nanoparticles and administering it with the help of nanorobots to ensure targeted delivery. They can be proven to be comparatively risk-free with little or no side effects; therefore, becoming a perfect solution to this relatively-new problem.

Health care professionals’ views about vaccination for covid – 19: A qualitative research in Primary Health Care settings

Introduction

The Covid -19 pandemic had many political, economic, and social consequences for individuals, families and communities. Vaccines play a crucial role for its effective treatment and health care professionals are key persons toward that aim, as they contribute to a successful implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination programs. Therefore their personal views are of utmost importance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the health care professional’s willingness to get vaccinated and their perceptions and concerns about the vaccination process.

MethodsWe conducted a qualitative research by semi-structured interviews fromNovember to December 2021. The sample consisted of 26 health professionals working in primary health and social care services in Crete. A thematic analysis was performed. Results and discussionIn their vast majority the participants have been vaccinated and supported the necessity of vaccinations. However, many of them have concerns about its mandatory use and suggested that the vaccination should be voluntary. Most of the respondents supported that health care professionals get vaccinated because they have the necessary scientific knowledge, and to provide safety for themselves, their families and their vulnerable clients. On the other hand, some health care professionals remain reluctant because of social media’s negative role, concerns of vaccines’ safety and religious or cultural issues.

ConclusionsEfforts to increase vaccines’ acceptance among health care staff are a necessity. Consideration should be given to communication and advocacy issues, to training and enhancement of the scientific knowledge of health professionals and the general population.

Published: 18 February 2022 by MDPI in The 2nd International Electronic Conference on Healthcare session Student Session

Leisure-sport is a professional industry that promotes people’s physical and mental health in the world. It is important to train and retain professionals to enhance service quality and industrial development. The purpose of this study is to identify the antecedents of career engagement in leisure-sport industries by using stimulus (learning engagement)-organism (professional identity and career self-efficiency)-response (career engagement) model from students’ perspectives who are studying in the department of leisure-sport. Quantitative method was adopted to address the study issues. Questionnaire was developed by the researcher according to previous studies. Purposive sampling was used to select respondents who are college junior and senior students in Department of Sport management and Department of Recreational Management in National Taiwan University of Sport. A total of one hundred and forty-three copied questionnaires were collected, the effective response rate was 91.6%. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and partial least squares structural equation modeling. The study findings indicated that students’ learning engagement does not significantly influence their career engagement in leisure-sport industries. However, learning engagement has indirectly significant effects on career engagement via professional identity and career self-efficiency, which are full mediators in the model. Accordingly, increasing students’ professional identity and career self-efficiency can contribute to their career engagement in leisure-sport industries.
